Hi Everyone.

 

Please can someone help. We are looking at electronic notice boards for school.

 

What software is you school using?

How much does it cost?

What tv's and other hardware are you using for this?

How many electronic noticeboards do you have and where?

Have you got a good recommendation of a company in Lancashire that does electronic notice boards, software, etc.

Right now, a PowerPoint show Hopefully going to something a little more sophisticated soon. It's served well while we've had it for only one screen.

We built, fitted and run it all ourselves in house (only needed the TVs to be powered wired up by sparkies)

What software is you school using?

 

A PowerPoint file on a network folder that the front desk staff can edit. This is then automatiocally loaded and displayed by a couple of display machines - they reboot once a day to load any changes to the file. Nothing fancy, but as Xibo seems to require PowerPoint client-side anyway it seemed a reasonable way of doing things, and the front desk staff find a PowerPoint fle easy enough to edit. PowerPoint does also support embedding of pretty much any type of video or Flash content, too, which is always handy.

@dhicks We do the same, although, if you're continuing to use it, I recommend ShowTime for PowerPoint to add to it. Constantly monitors the folder where your show is and displays the last modified file. No need to reboot.

We're using OneLan, but I used Xibo before that, and I'd probably try to use that again if I could... Really nice piece of kit...

 

The OneLans are really powerful, but quite tricky to get to grips with...

This means that the client is powered from the usb port of the TV.

Power on the TV and the device is powered!

 

Very happy with the setup.

Some minor cons: PPT has to be converted to .mov and the devices don't play flash.

youtube will not autoplay cos its on android.

I use RiseVision (free) for our notice TV in the staff room. It has a live google word document showing what's on this week and also the weather and national/local news. PC required for that one. Staff can also access the google doc from anywhere.

 

For the visitor focused system I use HDMI HD media players with USB support, about £35 and everything is done by swapping pen drives. No PC required for these TVs.

We have 4 digital displays around the school - 3 display the same thing, our daily notices, photos, our awards and the canteen menu. The fourth plays a series of slides which promote healthy eating, and the canteen menu.

 

All run on OneLAN boxes. The menu is fed from our cashless system and is auto-generated on the fly.

 

Staff notices are pinned to a physical noticeboard every day, and entered into our school diary in SIMS.

Ooh, that sounds handy. Can you point me to ShowTime for PowerPoint - Googling just brings up explanations of how to add timings to your slideshows.

I'd be interested in hearing more about that - what cashless system do you use? I'd love to get more content like that on, but don't want to update every day...

Its a bespoke in-house system - it uses a daily menu system to do 2 things - integrate with ParentMail (so parents can see the day's menu online) and display a menu on the screens.

@dhicks Firstly, I'm an idiot. It's not ShowTime at all, it's ShowPoint, which is probably why you couldn't find it.
