hayjo86 Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Who remembers playing marbles at school? They had all different names for the different sizes and types. I know the biggest ones were called super grandads or something... any1 remember the names of all of them and the worth they each had, like 2 spotty dicks are worth a cats eye.
BKGarry Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I have started playing my Dungeon Keeper games again, amazing, And i have managed to get Gabriel Knight - The Beast within (Review) on dos box on my mac so its in full screen, its awsome, might try to get RAMA working again
tech_guy Posted November 2, 2007 Author Posted November 2, 2007 Does anyone remember The Quill? It allowed you to write your own text-based games for the Sinclair Spectrum. A friend and I wrote a game called Pablo's Crazy Mansion which we managed to get published. I think we sold about 10 copies. It was totally bonkers. I've still got it on a cassette somewhere.
browolf Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 my first pc games were F19 stealth fighter by microprose released in 1988 my parents didnt and to a degree still dont believe in computers as entertainment devices. There were no consoles for us growing up as kids. My dad only relented and got an amstrad PC2086 (Intel 8086 CPU, 8 MHz, 640 KB RAM, VGA Graphics) when he needed to do stuff for work. we had to run windows off floppy disks!!
tech_guy Posted November 2, 2007 Author Posted November 2, 2007 Ahhhhh, Microprose....(eyes glaze over)
Guest aliv25 Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Who remembers playing marbles at school? I remember "slap / pat ball" with the only equipment being a tennis ball and a wall... "OBS" (as in obstruction)
PeterW Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 F19 stealth fighter by microprose released in 1988 I could never land the sodding plane, you could also fly aF-117A if I remember rightly. While we are on the subject of microprose one of my all time favorites is X-Com UFO Enemy Unkown (UFO Defence in the states) such a fantastic game.
mattx Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 F19 stealth fighter by microprose released in 1988 I think i had a copy of that on my Atari ST - came on about 3 floppys. I could take off and complete the mission but could never land the thing too.......

mattx Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Ooooooh, I am doing some real sad and geeky searches at the moment: Chaff !! Chaff !! http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1254/114254947400wz0.png http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/64/114254944000dk6.png
DreddMetal Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 The old debate of what was better the GameBoy (Nintendo) or GameGear (Sega) ... Discuss. I still have my old Game Gear, really was much better than the game boy for its time, the only thing that let it down was the battery life, 6 AA batteries would get you 30 minutes of gameplay Of course 30 minutes was all you needed when you were playing as the fastest thing alive Sonic > Any Other Game Character Ever!
Guest aliv25 Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 That would probably sell for abit wouldnt it? The old cartridge games, the GameGear was definitely more comfortable to hold, but GameBoy had more games.

I might dig my old 386 out of the loft this weekend and fire it up to play this game - I've still got the floppies somewhere.....
PeterW Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Eeek those screenshots take me back That first screen is the copy protection I think, had many games with code books and wheels & some just used the manual, page 72 paragraph 2 line 3 word 5. LOL
phreak Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Anyone ever play Sword of the Samuria? I still got the original disks somewhere. One of my favorite games of all time still. http://free-game-downloads.mosw.com/ss/685_0.png Also remember having to take stacks of floppy disks to my friends house when I was going to copy games and spending hours arj'ing or Pkzipping up the files. Still remember some of the commands.. I think.
localzuk Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Prince of persia, now thats a classic! I still play that
tech_guy Posted November 2, 2007 Author Posted November 2, 2007 The first Alone in the Dark. Great game. Where else did you get to punch and kick zombies?
Pottsey Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 â€Anyone remember Barcode Battler?†So many memories flooding back of games I forgot. Used to love that Barcode Battler as a child. I remember the Michal Jackson video has some of the best barcodes. Totally forgot about that device till you bought it up.

I have vague memories of this game console but I recall that I just couldn't get excited by it as I couldn't see the point of it. The Japanese loved it according to Wikipedia.
Bromcom_John Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Apparently the best barcode was on a packet of freeze dried japanese noodles.. Books of the best barcodes and where to get them where also published. No wonder Pokemon became so obsessive..
