Merlin's Castle - text adventure on the BBC. We used to play it at primary school. Recently found it and an emulator, and managed to complete it! - good times!

I also remember a random little game I found called Gods. Anyone remember that little platform game?

I used to have the 3rd one which was pure Puzzles (The lost mind of Dr Brain) again it came with my 1997 IBM Aptiva Running Windows 95 plus on 12 mb of RAM of which 2 was used up by the SIS Graphics, no PCI and no USB, but it did have an ATX power supply and shut down properly

Gods was amazing - had that on my Acorn Archimedes! Also loved Mad Professor, Bug Hunter in Space and Interdictor (flight sim)

I can't believe I've read through damn near 12 pages and not heard a mention of Sam and Max!!!!

Although kudos to whoever it was who mentioned Dizzy. Absolutely cracking games.

As for Doom, I want that first level made into a paintball arena Who's with me?

I remember Sam & Max Hit the Road - cool game with some really off the wall humour.

It's sad that I know all the secret rooms and stuff from Doom off by heart now. And I loved Doom2's sly dig at Wolf3D and Keen in the secret levels. All set out like Wolf3D with Nazis walking about and in the end after facing the Cyberdemon (yep, i remember their names too!) you got to see Commander Keen hanging

 

Was a bit disappointed in Doom3 that the imps ran and jumped instead of just firing fireballs and scratching you. Actually all doom3 monsters disappointed me just because I wanted them to look like the D and D2 ones but with better shading

I'm with you MK-2. A doom styled paintball area would be awesome... minus the acid pit of course.

 

For me one of the best games I used to play as a kid was a game called Hi-Octane. It was an awesome racing game with hovercrafts and weapons. It was the first cd-rom game I ever copies onto disk (back when you could do that with ease).

 

Also another one of my favorite old time games was Prehistorik. Thats and The Lost vikings. Both were quality platformers.

Lucas Arts biker game, Full Throttle. Was ok but not as good as Day of the Tentacle and Sam and Max in terms of comedy

Does anybody remember the Doom2 end boss? the one that shot out countless enemies and had that weird sound coming from it.

Bonus points to anybody who remembers the story behind that....without googling!

I dunno. I always got bored with the game by that point and iddqd'ed and idnoclip'ed my way to victory.

 

Yes. Hi-Octane was like an early wipeout. The soundtrack was great for it.

 

I remember the first space shooter I ever played called Silpheed (I think). I spent hours trying to clock that damm game. Don't think I ever did finish it though. And leading on from that the next space shooter I played was Wing Commander. Also a very good game and I remember when Wing commander 2 came out and it had one of the first intro movies where the people talked I had ever seen. Great stuff!

 

Also, there was a game I can't quite remember that I used to run on my old 386. It was a dungeons and dragons kinda game where you moved forward, back, left or right and encountered monsters along the way. I can't be sure but I think it might have been Might and magic.
