Amiga 500, cost £350, saved up for at £10 a week from my saturday job, plus birthday and christmas money.

 

Then added a extra 512kb <- yes thats right kb. of ram for the socket underneath.

Plus an additional 3 1/2 floppy drive.

 

Aww I remember those days and the extra ram upgrade for my 500+ to allow me to play some new games and the 2nd FDD was a blessing for 2 game disks

esp with games like beneath a steel sky on upwards of 10 disks think at one point i had 2 external floppys for my 1200 before i bought a hdd

Most awesome tech would be my Mac Book Air i got in 2011. After spending my whole life hating and laughing off anything Apple (like a lot of Techs do), i thought sod it at least i will know how to operate the Mac OS if i get one, it really opened my eyes and i think its the coolest laptop ever made, and my favourite piece of Technology.

Panasonic 3do! Beast of a games console back in the day. I was only a nipper when we got it, my mom won it on the Washing Line quiz/competition thing they used to do on the Big Breakfast. Released in about 1992 I think for about £500 over here. It was a silly expensive thing. The best part though was the 3.5mm headphone jack built into the controller with volume control, a feature we are just now getting on the ps4...

First sound cards, Sound Blasters were an absolute joy but did anyone get to play with the Adlib/Gravis Sound System stuff? I missed out on those

 

IRQ7, DMA1, forgot what the T was? I always remember that same list coming up each time I installed a game til in the end it was known off by heart.

A220 being the port, IRQ 7 (or often 5) DMA 1, can't remebmer the T, may even be wrong. There were a couple of other bits to enable adlib compatibility, model/card type but could never remember those!

Wasn't there something like only 7 IRQ spaces available? So the fun always come when two or more devices wanted to use the same channel. You had to move stuff around/re-configure so things that worked on the same channel where together and other channels where cleared. I seem to remember it always come down to a juggling act between com ports, modems and soundcards.

It'll be 20 years next year since I had my first home pc - a 486 with a 14" crt monitor, 8mb ram & a 850 mb hdd.

 

It took me 3 years to fill up the hdd!

 

I went online with that machine in the early days of the internet. It was fine as long as the webpage didnt have any pictures in it - if it did the browser crashed (an early incarnation of netscape was my favoured browser way back then)

 

I upgraded the ram to 24mb at enormous expense at one point.

 

That base unit sat around for years until it turfed out into a scrap bin up at the local tip.

 

I had a similar model.

 

It ended up as one of the first editions of Smoothwall's 'Firewall in a Box'. 2001, I think.

Twelve-inch colour Atari monitor and an external floppy B: drive and an Epson (I think) tractor feed printer. About two years after I bought it, I bought a 9600 baud modem and dived into Bulletin Boards.

 

When I got it out of the box, I remember thinking, 'Hang on, it's got a serial port and a parallel port. This thing is the Real Deal'. '1st Word' was my introduction to word-processing and a desktop publishing application, that I can't remember the name of. 'Serious' stuff had to be run in 4-colour Medium Resolution, games were in glorious 16-colour Low Res.

Childhood gadgets sure ain't what they used to be.

Give me a Tamagochi and I would've been the happiest kid for miles! I remember I went through a few of them in my youth.

 

There was one, I don't remember what it was called, but the outer chassis was rectangular (cuboid, technically) and it had a pattern engraved onto it to look like rugged bricks. The screen was on the left, buttons on the right. Definitely my favourite out of the lot of them I tried (on account of I still remember it pretty vividly)

One of the monsters it would 'evolve' into was t-rex ish. Another kind of looked like a poo (which happened if you didn't care for it too well.. I accidentally left mine in my mum's car over the weekend and it became a poo minion.. I actually preferred it to the t-rex. It had eyes on tentacles, kind of like you'd expect on a cartoon slug (Ooh, I know, think Gary from Spongebob.. except it was a poo-like-thing)

 

Oh, those were certainly the days. There were no iPod's for me, and I was happy with that.

Went right through the amiga range and eventualy poped the a1200 out its original case and into a pc tower case. Had to un solder a hd cable off the main board as thats how the shop fitted th 20mb hd when i bought it. And yer bring back dungion master it was the best. Think i have a boxed amiga copy in the loft.

Silicon graphics octane (showing my age) back in 97. Not the royal blue one (that was gen2) , the cyan one

The animation dept bought 15 of these, god knows how they got the money. £30k new, £5k for the multimedia expansion card, £3k for the 24in widescreen CRT monitor. Lovely piece of kit.

 

I saw one of these on eBay the other day for 50 quid. Times change.

I suppose it has to be my computer mouse, its one of the intellipoint optical ones from MS, bought it for a £10 and its still going strong, although faded from its original colour I went back to it a few years ago. Other than that I suppose it was a keyboard I had, it was perfect that was a chicony one, now on my Logitech one which its the next best thing. I am really picky about my mice and keyboard over anything, they have to feel right.

 

I suppose I came into it all quite late compared to the majority, so never saw the "true" tech stuff.

 

The only true awesome tech I have outside of IT is my Sonos sound system, its mint Cannot wait to expand it and crank it up!!

Not that old. But I'm only 23.

 

P3 computer that I had when I was about 9. I had the game called driver. Also with a steering wheel. Epic game.

 

Then I had a p4 1.7 512mb sd ram. Running windows me or 2000. Used to play need for speed underground (the first need for speed game)

 

Nokia 3210 do I need to say more.

 

Also I did have a p4 HT and that was fast. Installing Windows updates used to take no time at all. (On xp)

A Palm PDA that was shocking, especially when you wanted to try and put a 200 quid sat nav on it that had no search function!

 

My dad has an intellevision game system.from the 80s. Still works, just, If you hit it every 30 seconds... and some classic games there too!

I did have a saga mega drive with sonic
