iPads and DropBox

Hello,

 

On our site we currently have 90 iPads for students to use. Some staff now want students to be able to save the research work that they do on the iPads to be able to access it from the PCs in the school. The way I was thinking of doing this was through using dropbox, but this would obviously mean a lot of hassle setting up every student with a dropbox account. Also being able to share work with their teachers would mean the staff having to set up a shared folder and typing in each individual students account.

 

We do have fronter, and I wondered if anyone had any ideas for a solution that would be quicker and better than using dropbox before I get to work setting up approx 900 student dropbox accounts...

Get the students to set up their own dropbox accounts. Share the workload out.

Webdav on an internal server and an ipad client might be a slightly less intensive solution?

I saw a product called AirCatch at the BETT show last week. Looked interesting. Google points a search to AirCatch . I plan to try this out for our school this week.

We use FileBrowser for iPad, it allows you to connect to windows shares, drop box, google drive etc.

Whatever it is we decide to go for I think ease of use is going to be the main factor. Bearing in mind that 11 year olds are going to have to be able to use it.

Haha, very true. Fortunately we don't have any staff iPads

I will ask you what I ask myself in this situation. Are these shared iPads or 1:1? If they are shared how are you going to deal with the next user having access to all the previous users documents if they haven't signed out of the app properly (if at all).

I have thought about this as they are shared but I think the students will just have to look after their own accounts and remember to log out.

+1 for FileBrowser, students can save work into a Windows shared folder, make their own named folders etc. and the staff can access it from there via laptops. Easy.

I just saw a banner ad for AirCatch and it looks like a nice solution. Checking it out.

It does rely on having a mail account setup on the device, but i think it could be possible to make it a generic one that is on all devices and just get the kids to make sure their name is part of the subject.

 

I was having a chat the other day and saying that instead of teaching the primary kids to write the date, title, underline etc. we should start off with good naming conventions for files; this is the way forward...
