Printer Toners

Hi All,

 

I know this issue has probably been raised before....but I couldn't find it!!

 

What I would like is peoples opinions on printer toners......Originals, refurbished or compatible. What's your preference? And is there any real saving to be made?

We tried the Longbow toners for our HP printers for a while but they would frequently leak, get jammed, or do both. We went back to HP originals

we have origonals for both the HP, and Brother printers. then we just refill them. We buy our refill kits/toner form this site http://www.refilltoner.com/

Depends which printers and what locations they are as to if we are OEM or Refurb.

My aim is to get most of our printing done on lasers, and all of our laser printers to be provided by a contracting firm. This way the printers tend to be big, efficient, multi-purpose machines capable of fun stuff like scanning and printing A3, and if anything conks out you just ring someone up and it gets fixed in a couple of hours. Toner also gets provided by said firm, who tend to provide original cartridges.

 

The few inkjets we'll keep around are for printing photos, posters and the like. After having read up on the subject a little bit, I'll be sticking with original ink cartridges for them - remanufactured cartridge inks tend to fade after around 6 months. Over time, this gives the children on our display photos a somewhat greenish tinge...

We use originals across all of our range of printers. Compatibles, just never seem cost effective as they either didn't last as long, quality was not as good or they caused more jams etc then the originals.

Almost all original toners here, some refurbed and some compatible depending on the age and make of printer.

We tried the Longbow toners, and found the same thing, they are cheap and work like they are cheap. Wouldn't register as new ones on our Epson so have gone back to originals for all printers even though they are a bit more expensive.

All my printers are under warranty still so I only use orginal cartridges.

We use xerox in are brother 1660-e I think they use these in the ark. We also use a xerox x11 cartridge for the HP 2400n this works great is says about £30 a time (HP £110). This was xerox x11 was suggested by are supplier. We had a problem with one and they came in and sorted it they had a replacement and a original with them. It also says genuine HP when I put it in the printer.

We primarily use originals here (the last compatible I bought exploded as I opened it, so cost the school a decent toner to replace it plus my dry cleaning bill!).

 

The quality is often better on originals, but depending on location/usage, that might not be an issue.

 

It also depends on the value of the printer in question - e.g. we have some little £50ish quid colour inkjets, so even if the compats cause damage, the cost of a new printer might be less than the saving from using cheaper inks. Of course, the printer might break after a week (especially if another one blows up) at which point you lose out...

We use originals for reliability, but we send our empty cartridges to a recycling company and get some of the cost back. It's not a lot so we also get the staff and kids to bring in their old cartridges for recycling too.

Only use originals here. Did try a spell with Compatibles but I had several toners that leaked so gave up on that idea.

We try and use Xerox toners in our HP 4600 as these are virgin carts not refilled ones.

We use whatever is cheapest, but being a Christian school, we use action aid for both our toners. and toner disposal

They're cheaper. Simple as.

Xerox compats are the way to go, never had a problem with them. Extremely good value for money.

We use origenals in most of our printers, except the 1010 series printers. These are more-or-less disposable when the go wrong as they're so cheap to replace, so we don't mind risking compatibles in them because they're half the cost. The saving a year makes it worthwhile.
