  1. Elite and Lords of Midnight on the C64, now that was class. I mapped the whole of the Lords of Midnight and used the map to finally beat the game, took me bloody ages but was well worth it. Hey, I was young and not working, had to do something to fill the days Never managed to be classed as Elite though Doom was the one I played while I was supposed to be learning, the instructor brought it in one day and loaded it onto a couple of PCs, state of the art 33Mhz 486s with a huuuuuge 64MB of RAM and a single speed CDROM.
  2. 3COM have a bit of software that will map your network for you that's free called Network Supervisor. 3COM Network Supervisor download You can use it without registering, but the registration is free if a little confusing. Give it an IP range and it will find all the network devices on it and map them out for you.
  3. I'll help staff with their PCs, sometimes at work and sometimes by taking them home, occasionaly at their own home, but never ask for payment. I tend to get paid in gifts and most of the staff know what it is I like so that's fine by me. Pupil's laptops and PCs are a no no for me though. I will give advice and instruction where possible but definitely wont touch them. The only time I have was for a pupil who had a PC loaned to them by the school which was eventually gifted to them. And like everyone else here I get asked by friends and family all the time which is a different kettle of fish.
  4. We go with the VLE. It means that they can access the documentation they need at any time, edit it and upload it from anywhere and don't need access to the internal network to do so. They also get their own school email address and the desktop will enable them to leave posts on the governors forum.
  5. Hi Been lurking for god knows how long and decided to reregister as I have no idea of my original account details from just after the forum started. Network Manager in a secondary school, male and that's about all I'm saying
  6. No I'm not a teacher, I'm an network manager. and its definitely not you tech_guy Mind you, it could lead to some paranoia on the board as they try to figure out who it is lol.

    Printer Toners

Almost all original toners here, some refurbed and some compatible depending on the age and make of printer.
  8. I used to get stressed about the job and not being able to do everything that was needed, staying back each night, working at home, not stopping to eat, etc. but then one day decided OK that's enough. I do what is needed, do more when its needed, but will not work myself into the ground anymore. The network is running smoothly at the minute, money is OK, people respect me (though same can't be said about the technician here) and I'm happy. I find being respectful to the staff and pupils gets you further than being a loser with them, but being tough when it's needed is also important. The ability to say NO and sticking to your guns is an essential part of any job. Having a supportive wife and boss who can put up with moody days, and working out my stress in some of the ways others on here have mentioned, (gaming, excerise and so on) means I'm much calmer and don't worry about coming into work anymore. To Halfmad and others in his situation - if you have a boss who will support you and any changes you need to make to do your job effectively - use them, get them to air your greivances, get them to make others listen. If you haven't got this support I'd look elsewhere for a job, making it clear why you are looking, as it's not likely to get any easier for you and it's not worth near killing yourself for.
  9. Having a technician who does what he's told, when hes told, without going into a strop about it, and who actually gets on with what he's meant to be doing instead of what HE wants to do.
