Build in Firefox (the most standards compliant browser out there), validate your code through The W3C Markup Validation Service then test it in Chrome, Safari, Opera and finally IE. As IE upto version 8 doesn't support w3c standards, because MS thought they were superior. So then fix for IE with a separate stylesheet. So the general rule is - Build to Standards, fix for IE.

The overall div may have been a bit overkill. As essentially you are using a block element to wrap an inline element. Try using "display:block;" on the ul itself to make the ul act like a div. This should help cut down on your markup

Try using "float:left;" instead of "display:inline-block;" Also, prempting the next issue - place after your 2 boxes in your markup. And creat a class with the same name and the property "clear:both;" in your CSS

Hi all, This is my first post on here since becoming a web developer. We have a clients website, which outputs the results of a set of data to an SWF file that displays a graph on the page. Unfortunantly, when the the client and thier customers print the page - it displays tiny from IE and doesn't display at all from FF, Chrome, Safari and Opera. Does anyone have a fix, preferably HTML or CSS that will force the end users browser to print Embedded flash?

I got stitched by that a couple of years back. Was sat there in the lobby of "a private school which will remain unnamed" with 4 other candidates, then a 6th candidate wandered down from upstairs, removed his school id badge and replaced it with a visitors badge. Turned out he had been working there as a temp for 6 months, and they were only going through the motions to get him employed. 3 Technical tests, a formal lunch and 40 minute face to face interview later, what a waste of a day.

We have an Apple techy here, but the college calls him an "Apple Specialist" and pays him £5k more than the rest of us. That said, he does do the job of a manager of a small network, including apple servers and keeping all the prissy apple loving types happy.

More specifically, Room Checks. We currently use a paper form to keep track of our Room Checks under our SLA. Our SLA states that we will check an IT room every 2 weeks. So I wish to setup a form on our new Sharepoint whereby users enter the Helpdesk reference number into a box once it is cleared, and it marks the flag on the field as done. If the time since the last check is over 2 weeks, it highlights them. Perhaps in an area at the top marked "Outstanding Room Checks" and thier assigned technician. I have absolutely no Sharepoint or Infopath training, so i'm an absolute newbie. This may even be outside the possibility of SP. I have been trying the almighty oracle that is google, but not knowing how to word the query, couldn't yield any good results. Thanks in advance.

Decent machines, but the power buttons are a nightmare, always popping through into the facia if you have an over zealous student

We have a HP 8550 that we are about to list on ebay. It has a Carousel fail, and a magenta toner has gone pop in it.

Hi Y'all. I have recently inherited a lovely job from many of my predecessors, of clearing all the accounts out of AD. We currently use a lovely piece of software called User Management Resource Administrator (UMRA), to manage the Rolling on and off of Student accounts. And my bosses want this extending to the Staff. My first stage in the data cleansing is to remove all the reduntant accounts (this process being more urgent, as we are approaching UMRA's licence limit of 25000 AD objects). What I want to do, is audit all accounts in AD and find ones which have not been used in over 12 months? Is there a "Last Authenticated" attribute that I can use (UMRA can audit AD/LDAP attributes). My reason behind using last authenticated and not last logon, is that I don't want to accidentally delete service accounts, as over the years, I am sure there will be ones that have not been documented and thier removal will cause random systems to fall over. Oh I was definatly going down the Pull printing route, otherwise its definatly not a goer. Theres far to much of a culture of "but its my printer" despite the fact we are supposedly a "hot desk" organisation. Is shall pull stats out of PCounter for a 12 month period. Chat to reprographics and procurement. It may take a while to draft this proposal, but I intend to present it to SMT at some point. Even if from a selfish point of view, it's something to put on my CV "Saved the company x amount in wasted printing" etc.

Hi All, It's been a long time since I have posted on here, but hopefully you will all forgive me. Recently our College, like all Colleges in the UK, have announced that thier funding will be cut as part of the Governments cost saving measures. As part of this, all employees have been asked to make cost saving suggestions and no feasable idea will be ignored. Should we not cut costs enough, then redundancies will become a real option of cost saving. I have noticed during a recent audit that the Colleges current printing solution is massively inefficient. We are currently implementing PCounter how it should be (previously it had only been used to log printing, and not for full on print management). Today I approached my IT manager about the idea of removing ALL of the college printers (almost every room has one, we have shed loads of deskjets) and replacing them with a fleet of strategically placed, swipe card photocopiers. He responded with, "thats the ideal solution, but its been rejected by SMT in the past" I think its a goer, and in real terms, could save tens of thousands of pounds. And in essence, JOBS. I have 2 questions. Do I go over past my boss, and goto SMT myself? How would I approach building my proposal?
