Getting some money up there mate? lol .. We use GBM Tech (GBM Digital Technologies | Home) .. It's a guy called Phil Harrison that I usually deal with for schools supplies.

Hi Andy its part of the long term plan . We have a few ipads in school but was asked about a longer term view to present to SLT and GOVS.

Ah .. I see .. and there was me thinking the school had a windfall or something .. I've PM'd you Phil's contact details .. :)

If it's just mobile stuff such as iPads and Apple TV's you won't need a server a Mac Mini for Apple configurator will do you fine! We use AT Computers very good! But better yet don't buy them all you'll have will be issues!

We used JTRS - Apple Solution Expert in my previous school.

@fiza - How was your experience of JTRS? At the moment, it's looking highly likely that we will be purchasing an entire iPad solution from them (including a wireless network infrastructure). I'd like to know who and what I'd be dealing with, and if there are any particular issues of which I should be aware.

EDIT: It would be a class set of shared devices, plus 1:1 devices for teachers, in a primary setting.

+1 for GBM have used them both in Education and Industry and very happy with pricing, service and aftercare. We've even had the team lend us replacement equipment whilst ours is repaired.

It was a good few years back. I wasn't directly involved as it was mandated by our pseudo LA (Ministry of Defence). As far as I know we had no issues with JTRS or the support they provided.

Try these guys,

Amc Computer Supplies

Name of guy i use is Nick, They are able to undercut everyone.

A good price is never an indication of a successful solution, just dropping boxes at the school gate is NOT a solution.

I'd ask any supplier of iPads the following;

Are they able to help you get enrolled into VPP?

Do they understand the differences between managed distribution licences and redemption codes?

What about vision and plan for where the school want to take the investment, do they understand the teaching and learning aspects to help transform this in the school?

Are they able to deliver CPD training to the teachers?

Do they understand the necessary infrastructure and wifi requirements to make management easier ?

Do you know of any suppliers at all who are that in debt with your requests?

Exactly. I doubt a "supplier" of the kit will be able to offer you anything of this sort. Though you could always take out a support contract with people like AT Computers, we use them and they're good. But we buy the Apple kit from whoever is cheapest. I think @ictDirectDave was pretty cheap but @Millgate also offer good prices on Apple stuff.

Yep i generally find that I would rather do the leg work myself on that sort of kit. I know my network I know the schools requirement therefore all i require is a quote. Not taking the supplier through a job interview type conversation is better for everyone involved

Aye we always seem to cut it pretty close with Millgate,

And we can offer you all kinds of advice about your network and where to look for support. Edit: Aaaaaand, we offer staff training too :)

But why look beyond this forum for suppliers? You'll get great Apple pricing from any number of suppliers and great network deals from some others!

We're all here to help :)

We used Academia they have been pretty good thrown in some free training etc. We tend to do the whole 'solution' based stuff ourselves VPP etc etc, same for maintenance just replaced 3 cracked screens myself easy boom.

Haha - Sorry didn't mean it like that, you we're better than millgate last time! :)

Surely no one should need training in Apple stuff, you don't need it. Everything just works. :troll:

haha! It's okay, competetiveness is good for everyone (except my profit margins!).

The training I believe isn't so much to teach them how to work the things as it is to show teachers ways of using them as a clever interactive textbook and not just their own personal shiny facebook portal :)

The simple answer to that question is yes, when it comes to schools buying iOS devices.

Apple Solution Experts put in the time and money to ensure that schools (thats includes IT as well btw) get all the right advice and help in upfront in deployment and planning. Some examples of this are below

| EducationJTRS

IT Solutions Education Experts | Jigsaw24

https://www.krcs.co.uk/education

Western Computer - 1:1 Scheme

Whilst there is nothing wrong with being competitive on price, I would expect any supplier to know what they are talking about when it comes to iOS deployment/management/Teacher CPD in schools?

We used to use MCC, but it wasn't as good once our account manager left.

We now use GBM Digital and they are very good.

A few of the companies named in this thread didn't seem interested in talking to us unless we were looking at doing a full 1 to 1 deployment (we did an initial rollout of 10 ipad minis with mac mini running OSX Server and struggled to get companies based south of Macclesfield to quote).
