Got anyone to run with? Any local clubs do social sessions?

I find I go back to club running when I get in the CBA mode and find someone to chat too while i'm running.

Thanks for that, yes there is a local club but they meet on the one night of the week that I'm busy. Just need to get my self up and at it and I'll be ok.

Newport Marathon completed on Sunday.2nd time I've done this event. I seem to be getting slower each time I run nowadays. Very enjoyable event though, generally very flat and very well organised. The random guy handing me a beer at mile 19 was very welcome :-)

Destroyed by mile 18 but yet put in fastest mile at mile 23. Not sure how that happened.

Gatwick Half this Sunday and then up to Liverpool Marathon at the end of May. Will be re-focusing on 5k and 10k speed after this.

Wow :-) .

I decided to go for a sub 3:45 16 week training plan first then see how I am 18 weeks before Marathon and maybe do it again, should know whether I'm in it by then. Even the sub 3:45 plan reckons it should take 1min off my 10k time and 3mins off half marathon, certainly happy if I manage that. All the rest of it quite happy about.

It's quite shameful really given that it was me that actually started this thread :(

We all go through stages, I quite often dont run for months then run a lot during months.

Signing up for the London Marathon has got me motivated.

I did it too, and slower than last year. Unfortunalty i seem to have developed exersise induced asthma which had prevented me doing pretty much anything for the last 7-8 weeks while they diagnosed my issues.

So my legs blew up at mile 14, I must of met the same guy at mile 18.5 as I downed his Pint for him lol.

Agreed well organised event, next year i'll hopefully be more prepared (can't realy walk today lol)

Si

Well done. Hard to keep going when the legs are complaining and the asthma can't have helped.

The alcohol on the run could be what I need :-) Reading Half has a pub that gives out tasters of beer if I remember right.

I went for a 1mile run last night and wasn't too bad - thighs are a little tight but otherwise OKish.

I am really struggling to get my motivation back to start running again :(

first step is always the hardest. Any C25K's locally that you could go to?

Well I can now run 5k in 30mins comfortably so am looking to build up.

What do you guys do to increase your distance?

Run further ;)

Rule of thumb is don't add more than 10% to your distance each week. But saying that i'd look to do 4 miles next, pick and out-and-back route of 2 miles each way and just run it at your current 5k pace. Do that a couple of times and build your distance slowly. It's easy to get carried away and try and do too much too soon but that can lead to injury.

build slowly. As @pooley said, don't go beyond 10% each week.

What do you want to achieve for yourself?

Thanks everyone.

I have a tendency to push myself too hard (which is why I have injured myself a few times) so I'll definitely heed the advice to take it slowly.

I actually have no idea what I want to achieve now. I was focussed on getting to 5k and didn't think beyond that. I guess next goal is 10k :)

Just to let all those know that sponsored me i completed the Great north in 1 hour 47minutes. A great achievement after 19 months of running. Do any of your run with a head torch or can recommend one (ideally suitable for heavy rain as i go out in all conditions)

I have a Petzel from a few years ago which I cant remember the model but I use it for running and camping and its holding up well but I would recommend Petzel and as well as the strap that goes round the head that you get one that has the strap over the head.

Mine only has the one strap around the head and a few times running I have to adjust it but its not a major issue for me.

Well done on completing the GNR in a very good time!!!

I bought an ONNIGHT 700 from Go Outdoors. Does OK. Nice strong beam in the white light option; red light option has on mode and a flashing mode.
