crc-ict Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 As EduGeek houses such a cross-section of us from the world of Educational ICT, I was wondering how many of us are into caravanning, motorhoming or camping in our spare time? I went caravanning with my parents for many years in my childhood, and got back into it last spring with my wife and kids. Started gently in the spring with a tent and had bought a small caravan by the end of the season! Looking forward to getting back out there when the decent weather comes along (hopefully) later in the year. Hopefully there's a few of us here and we can get a community going - I've created a group, so if you are a camper at all, please pop on over and join! EduGeek Campers - EduGeek.net And don't forget to say hello in here.

hardtailstar Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I go camping, trying to go lots more but without a proper tent this year!
Oaktech Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Well... I Suppose I'm a camper. But I'm more of a 'if it won't fit into my rucksack it doesn't come' kind of camper. 1
bladedanny Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Well... I Suppose I'm a camper. But I'm more of a 'if it won't fit into my rucksack it doesn't come' kind of camper. I'd love to get into that kind of lightweight camping / hiking. The camping I currently do is in a big solid tent with electricity, gas and preferably Wi-Fi.

edutech4schools Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Love camping in a tent. Had to sell my t4 vw camper last year not happy about that but needed the cash. Might get a cheap caravan soon.
jinnantonnixx Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 (edited) Yep. Used to have a VW camper but sold it a few years ago. I started out with all sorts of nylon tents, but they either broke or aggravated me so much I broke them. Now have a splendid bell-tent which I should have bought in the first place. The model of simplicity, it goes up in 10 minutes and looks great. Edited January 7, 2014 by jinnantonnixx

That's really how we ended up going with the caravan. I basically steered us into 'caravanning with a tent' - big tent, all mod cons etc. We were eventually scuppered by weather really - tent was too big for the garden, so ended up having to leave a couple of trips early to keep the tent dry as we had no way to dry it at home. After the second time, I declared enough was enough and found a caravan small enough to tow with the car we had at the time - it wasn't changing much about the camping, just we did it in a solid box which didn't need drying! Then after a couple of trips out I declared the car too gutless pulling the caravan and changed for a bigger car, so we could have had a bigger van.

I went to the Motorhome and Caravan show at the NEC late last year. There were some really really nice campervans on show there and if I'd have had the money I would have had one in a heartbeat.
hardtailstar Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Camping here - Mainly as a scout leader. Me too although Im an Explorer leader.
HarryMonkey Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I tend to camp occasionally, mainly on diving trips. Had a caravan years ago but have nowhere to keep one anymore.
Greenbeast Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 do enjoy a night in my hammock under a tarp, all too infrequently unfortunately.
twin--turbo Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Trailer tent was bought 2 years ago. They are great. Rob
rad Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Camper here. Used to go Eurocamping starting in 1990, worked for the company in 2001. Had many tents and am now helping out with Duke of Edinburgh with school. The thought of a campervan appeals but feel it won't get used as much as it should, FiL has an old VW though.
