I have just heard a message left by a parent explaining why her daughter is not at school today...

"She has got concussion after being hit on the head when children were chucking acorns around in the playground. I have taken her to the hospital and they have said she should be kept quiet today because of the concussion"

I haven't laughed as hard for ages...

LOL perhaps it is unfortunate wording - it said she had been hit on the head - it didn't specify that it was an acorn that hit her - more like another kid elbowed her or smacked her over the head with their arm/hand or whatever.

I have just listened to the message again and she did say "...hit on the head by an acorn..."

I think we had better issue hardhats for when the conkers start dropping...

Considering the way I've seen kids chucking conkers [like at the bus in the morning...] I'm not surprised the kid has a concussion.

Well if it had been a conker then....

Actually I don't think most of the kids here (a junior school) can throw anything very hard being from the soft games console generation ;)

There may be a case here though for doing some physics lessons to show that something as light as an acorn will bruise but not concuss due to it's lack of mass...

You just need to throw it harder. :p

Sorry to interupt your collective sniggering, but if the acorn was flung quite hard and hit the child on the temple rather than another bit of the head it could well cause concussion.

That's what I was saying. Sort of.

I've seen windows smashed with a well aimed conker.

The acorn was still attached to the branch. :)

Bet the branch was attached to an even bigger branch... or even the acorn tree!!!! :p

My god, where is this discussion going lol

the acorn tree!!!! :p

You mean... an oak tree? :p

Youth of today, don't know nothing about nature, too busy on their Grand Theft Autos and their Call of Duties to know what a tree looks like. If you ever saw an oak for real you'd just be all like, ooh, look at that ambient occlusion, ooh that anti-aliasing is amazing. Pfft.

They also probably said "you're an idiot, get out of my A&E."

Some of your tax money got spent then on this person.

I'd hardly call myself a youth. I don't have GTA5 and don't like the COD series either! :p

I'll just go with 'a moment of stupidity'. :D

I've been searching for "MY BRUTAL ACORN HELL" on the tabloid newspaper sites and have been unable to track down any cases of acorn concussion.

So far.
