Walkie Talkies over wifi

Hi all,

Is there a walkie talkie device out there which works over wifi? I tried various iOS apps although mixed to poor success and just want a push to talk device over wifi exactly like a walkie talkie. I don't want Skype, face time or anything you have to dial.... just push to talk over a mobile device.

Must admit best thing we did spending a few hundred quid on each radio and then the license to go with them Improved the use of them no-end bar when people try to talk into them by eating them or cover the mic with hands

@robjduk Did you ever get Walkie Talkies over wireless? We want some and figured that wireless would be the way to go. For a start it stops people with scanners listening in (although I do know this is unlikely anyway!) but also it would mean that they would still work at our remote site which is connected to the main building via a VPN.

I did not in the end. I found that they are just not made because in case of an emergency such as power outage or worse you would have a site wide black out of communications. At least radios would still work in this situation which makes scene I guess.

We use to use some vocera devices. They worked great, had a bunch of features, and some wonderful easter eggs.

Vocera good but I'd say pricey for a school. We used them in the hospital before.

Thumbs up for Motorola DP3400 and repeater base (UPS Covered), which we use for IT and Fire Marshals - great clarity and range especially as we are quite a spread out site with mostly thick Cornish granite buildings to get through.

On wifi, we use Tikl touch to talk - we use the unfiltered wifi connection and our own facebook accounts.

Have you thought about wifi ip phones? https://support.avaya.com/products/P0258/ip-wireless-phones/ need an ip phone system though
