There was a great webinar yesterday run by Crown commercial, where they had a couple of guys from VM/Broadcom on the call. My question was read out first; "VMWare have totally thrown schools under the bus - how will VMWare or Crown support schools with this massive burden?" I got a stock answer, but guys from Crown were good saying they are pushing them on pricing and Education is on their radar. they also said that a Broadcom President is coming over next week, and will be having significant discussion with commercial colleagues. VM were only allowed on for half the webinar then after they left the guys from commercial had a frank discussion, which was good to hear their perspective and thoughts (i won't disclose info here). not sure if you can register and play back the webinar, but worth keeping your eyes peeled on https://www.crowncommercial.gov.uk/events for any future ones. Also caught the end of another webinar from the new(ish) .Gov - Get help buying for schools service; that might be another useful avenue to progress licensing and support if you're sticking with VM, or migration, professional services and wider strategy if you're thinking of rm -rf'ing! It's the "Clause 6 agreed" bit that jumps out to me, as that is specifically the line that deals with School not being a Public Authority or Public Body for the purposes of the GDPR. Jut unclear that it states "agreed", but the amendment 10 was withdrawn, and according to the https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/bills/lbill/2017-2019/0066/18066-I.pdf , (page 3) amendment 10 is clause 6?? JB.

So just reading through the hansard notes from yesterday's debate; ". . . with the reassurance from the Minister that we can have a meeting to discuss this further, I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment 10 withdrawn. Clause 6 agreed. Just a slight tangent - how do you know the device is suitably wiped when they upgrade and recycle their old phone or give to family or friend? I'm not too sure that all staff would inform you their personal phone was lost or stolen, let alone when they upgrade it themselves. JB.

Hi, We confirmed the AD SSO issues with them this morning. Confirmation email from them below; "Thank you for you call just now. As we discussed, we have had a few reports from users who've experienced intermittent issues with Active Directory Single Sign On. We're currently monitoring this, so if any of your users have trouble getting logged in, it would be very helpful if you could provide us with some test credentials so we can investigate further. In the meantime, if there's anything else we can help with, please let me know." JB.

As there are suppliers. I have lost count the number of times and the number of hours i have spent arguing with companies and ending with conversations with usually the MD or CEO and their legal depts, with me telling them what they need to be doing only for them to ignore or argue their own intertrpetation. Despite sending them highlighted ico documentation, inviting them to talk to the ICO themselves as well as involving LA legal; there are *many* companies who (currently) would rather lose 1 schools' custom because they know there are plenty more out there who are less demanding (about standards, complaince, liability, etc.) and will hand over the money. /dismountHighHorse JB.

IANAL - But don't forget that there are also other laws which state (very specific) types of access such as the The Education (Pupil Information) (England) Regulations and Education (Independent School Standards) Regulations 2014. JB.

It's worth giving them a shout to see what package they can offer - i'm on 250GB a month and i only occasionally need to top-up. Obviously everyone's usage is going to be different and only you can judge what cap (if any) is suitable. JB.

In terms of a decent service, excellent tech support and you are given control and stats of your line, i found Andrews and Arnold the best home ISP i have used yet - and i've used quite a few. I've got ftth, but and it's not the cheapest out there and comes with usage caps, but i get really low latency and decent speed (and they are happy for you to use your own router). JB.

Don't forget that these images may be within scope of the DPA (or soon to be GDPR), and should only be retained in line with policy and used for the specified purpose. JB.
