Also: I'm trying everything within my power NOT to have iPads in school. If they want to go tablet, i'll look at the Surface...

 

You could go Android.... We have 95 Samsung Galaxy tabs in school. Some 10" but most 7" They are not without their issues, but I feel they have more to offer than the iPad. I have had to make changes to our wireless and Smoothwall. But each to their own. I think the surface might be a good option, I think they might be a good device for schools especially at the price they are at the moment.

Xiaomi do have plans to sell their smartphones globally in the not too distant future. If the 64GB Mi3 pictured below costs ~£310 (inc. VAT) in the UK, I think they will do really well.

That isn't exactly what I wrote, I said people who want to be looked at, people who use a car/anything as a status symbol. If you lived on a farm and drove a 4x4 I doubt very much anyone would judge you based on your car. Can you honestly tell me you would make no judgement at all on the person who drives this?

 

 

Some people will look at you and think you are wickid cowl, others will think something less pleasant.

It’s not as much if you consider it has more graphics power then an Xbox360, can output to HD to a TV can play HD TV shows to your TV and is basically a laptop in your hand. In fact I would bet it outspecs many school computers. From a technology point of view it really is amazing not that I would ever get one.

 

EDIT: One way to look at it is you might no longer need a TV box set, might no longer need a games console or laptop. Consolidate all the devices down to one. That’s what I do at home although I use a different device. I no longer have a games console or TV box set using loveflim to a large screen for example.

I, errrr, no. Equating one aspect of one product category to the same thing in another is just ridiculous, akin to saying "my car has more boot space than a Ferrari"

Remember also that there was probably a time when certain calculators out-specced a ZX Spectrum in areas, but it's still a case of right tool for the right job.

I do not see how that is ridiculous. The phones are expensive as the specs are high and you get a lot of different device functionally in 1 package. It’s not just a phone which is why it costs so much more than just a basic phone.

 

It’s a phone, games console, TV system, laptop and everything else all built into one small device that outputs wirelessly to speakers and a HD TV. That’s what you pay for.

 

It’s not akin to saying "my car has more boot space than a Ferrari" it’s more no longer needing 3 or 4 different devices or if talking about cars no longer needing 3 or 4 cars and doing it all via 1 device/car. Like I said I no longer need a TV license, music player, setup box or TV subscription like Virgin or Sky. No longer need a games console. All been replaced via 1 device that if I want I can carry around with me. That’s what you pay for. If anything I save money like this so £700 doesn’t seem a lot.

Isn’t that what he did only he used more of an Xbox 360 style graphics game outputted to a HD TV.

Good for some but personally I like the fact that my phone can be flat, lost, broken, stolen and yet I can still go home and fake murder people to vent about it, my phone can do a stack of that stuff too and cost nowhere near as much, I use a stack of different devices and like them all to be capable so if one suffers an unfortunate fate I'm not thrust back into the stone age by a misplaced water balloon. Good enough cpu has been around for quite a while, my old touch pro 2 managed most of that with wires years ago for sd tv, the standard at the time and I routinely stream media from my smart phone to my smart tv or console, or amp. All of these can manage 1080p and a web browser but I would not bin any of them as they each do something very well, sound from a tv can be lacking so the amp and battery life/hear from a phone can be rubbish so sometimes a specific tool is just better. I also still prefer pc and console games, I don't want to spend $100 a month on Facebook beans to play the games, I want a decent engrossing game with a decent story. I don't think that the full unification will be for everyone for a long time yet despite what the apple faithful may believe they deserve. I prefer universality, I want everything to be smart and work together to become even greater rather than a single device which dictates how smart things can be. It seems like entrapment.

Then why do people still replace it after a 2-3 year period? PC's, games consoles, laptops have much greater lifespans so cost wise they are more viable financially. Plus, after 2-3 Apple updates, it will grind to a halt like they all seem to do!
