Oaktech Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 This school is on Avenue Road... My nearest shopping area has a 'story lane' which in itself sounds quite cute, it's not until you find out that's where the library is do you understand the full majesty of the situation!

Andrew_C Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Between the Strand and Embankment, next to Charring Cross Station, the area was sold for development by some toff (I think it was John Adam Villiers, Duke Of Buckingham) many years ago. One of the conditions was that the new roads would bear his names; all of them. Hence Villiers Street, Buckingham Street, John Adam Street, and Of Alley. Of Alley has been renamed by some cretin on the council, but the sign still says "Formerly Of Alley"

Similarly, I believe there is a housing estate in Towcester, the nearest settlement to the Silverstone race circuit, where all the roads are named are famous racing drivers, including a road called Graham Hill :-)

It's called the Shires estate although I'm not sure why given that all the street names are associated with motor racing. Edited February 6, 2015 by HarryMonkey
