OFSTED in today. E-mail shockingly bad. Will definitely be moving to Office 365 in the summer.

After that, the only thing we will be using from CLEO/One Connect will be SIMS support.

Well again this morning it's slow. Really looking to bring it in house now, or look at office 365/google apps. Think the office 365 will win just purely based on the fact that all our staff are used to outlook web access now.

Yes, I’d say around that time too. We had users in this morning at 7am using webmail fine. Now it’s unusable. Staff want to kill me.

Could it be that they are limiting the bandwidth to not let the servers fail.

What's interesting is that I have a few users with full Outlook 2010 via POP / SMTP and they don't seem to have any issues. It's just the webmail bit seems to stop.

ICT Status Updates for Schools

Internet and Email Performance Issues (21 June 2013)

Please note that some schools may be experiencing performance issues with the School's Internet and Email services. We are aware of the problems and our engineers are working on a solution now. This will take some time to implement. Our engineers will be working over the weekend to try and ensure the problems are resolved for Monday 24 June 2013.

Details of the Performance Issue:

The Email service can be intermittently slow to respond for some users. We recommend access to the Email service by using webmail: https://outlook.lancsngfl.ac.uk/owa

Accessing the service using other methods of access (such as Outlook Anywhere) can be significantly impacted.

A dedicated team of engineers are working on resolving the issues. A number of changes have already been made which have improved the Internet performance. Further work is also planned this weekend, which will require more extensive changes. We are expecting these to changes result in significant improvement in performance for the Email and Internet services.

We are currently experiencing an unprecedented number of concerted malicious attacks on the network. The network security solution has ensured that these attacks have not compromised the network, but they do create an excessive load on the network. This excessive load can have an adverse effect on the performance of all of the school Internet services. In order to mitigate against the effect these network attacks are having on the network, emergency changes to the network infrastructure are required.

These malicious attacks have been experienced by other broadband networks in the UK and in some cases have caused a total loss of service. The work that we have undertaken has ensured that the services do continue to run, but unfortunately it has had a significant impact on performance.

We will post updates on the School's Portal on the progress being made to resolve the issues.

We apologies for the impact this has had on your service and the inconvenience it may be causing your school.

Please continue to report any other faults to [email protected] as usual.

No problems at home, on my iphone.

Is that using the webmail or pop side? The pop side works for 2 staff using outlook, but the webmail is completely down and out!!

However it is up from external address (iphone).

ICT Status Updates for Schools

Following the planned work over the weekend to resolve the Internet and Email performance issues, we are continuing to experience problems. Engineers are working on this urgently to resolve the issue and restore the service so that the service is back to normal as soon as possible. We are currently estimating that the service will be restored by 10am.

Another message from the portal...

Following planned work over the weekend One Connect Limited made a series of changes to the Email and Internet configuration for schools. These were planned to significantly improve the performance of the service which has been adversely affected following changes needed to protect the CLEO network from a series of concerted malicious attacks.

The changes made were technically tested over the weekend but we were unable to perform any rigorous load testing until schools returned on Monday morning. A further issue was encountered as schools began to log back in and Engineers responded swiftly to implement a final change. Full service was restored at 09:50am.

Initial feedback is already very positive and One Connect Limited Engineers are closely monitoring the performance of the servers which has significantly improved. We will continue to look at any further improvements which are possible and these will be communicated via the School's Portal prior to being implemented.
