X-13 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) My brother made me laugh on the weekend about it though, "Yeah my mate has it and he said you can just say 'Xbox, ON' and it'll turn on!! :D"... kids, bless 'em. and unless they fixed it... if you say "Xbox, off" it'll turn off the Xbone of whoever you're playing online with. Much fun to be had with that. It's a shame there's no "Xbox, format C:" or "Xbox, delete system32". carrying two bloody obvious boxes with the print "XBOX ONE" all around - not exactly inconspicious, is it? If it's from somewhere like GAME, it's be a massive, heavy looking, white bag with "GAME" written on it. I wonder what could be in there? [/sarcasm] Edited November 25, 2013 by X-13

Oh that's sold me, I'm off to GAME to buy one now - damage will be done I'm sure if someone digs deep down they'll find some hidden functions for it.

No.... like skype the xbox should be tracking what its outputting to noise cancel so its not an issue (the command is "xbox turn off"). Also you have to confirm the action as well.
PeggleStar Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 One thing to remember and that is if you say "xbox on" it won't work until the TV is on the right source, HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 etc. I had to set up a console for a 15 year old at the weekend and we were there for ages saying "xbox on" with the TV turned off it was funny
SYNACK Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 @TBlax my review is that it is a good machine with a few features missing which they will hopefully address quite soon. Mine runs quiet and fast, managing ghosts really well. My issues with it are which they should be able to fix in updates are lack of voice rec in NZ, no voice messages or even listening to them from 360, not enough feedback about what it is doing hence my issues with ghosts to start out with (took forever to install). Lack of apps for NZ, we don't get YouTube but apparently you guys do. No way to pipe voice chat out to the tv if headset is connected. I had a bunch of people round to have a go on launch day (had grabbed an extra controller) and they all loved the new controllers. Smartglass is also great, better than the old one. I also like the qr code way of activating addins like preorder cards so you can just hold that up to Kinect rather than messing with long codes. The integration between W8, WP and 360 with the one is also not quite done yet, achievements on X1 don't show on the others yet but again this is an update away. Overall I like it and do think that these over sites will be corrected as time goes by.
ZeroHour Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 A new thread for those with Xbox One's Add your Gamertag here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/gaming/127697-xbox-one-gamertags.html
Guest Guest Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Yeah my mate has it and he said you can just say 'Xbox, ON' and it'll turn on!! :D"... kids, bless 'em. It's sooooooo funny! I spent most of Friday just talking to it rather than playing games. It is actually useful though. If you are like me and lose the remote for the TV "Xbox on" is actually really useful. Telling it to change games is great too. Also telling FIFA to make a sub/change tactics/formation/etc without pausing! I was expecting it to be a complete gimmick but it is good and actually works - even with a northern accent! One draw back - I think I've filled my HD with game highlights... Xbox record that. And that. Yeah that too...
APMerry Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Mine just records random events. Got loads of sweaty goals and average saves filling up my HDD.
Theblacksheep Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I've read xboxone doesn't support DLNA properly and only receives content and cannot initiate from a DLNA server, can you chaps confirm?
ZeroHour Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) I've read xboxone doesn't support DLNA properly and only receives content and cannot initiate from a DLNA server, can you chaps confirm? It doesnt support pull yet but I have its rumoured to be coming, at least something is in there I guess. Push isnt really an issue and so far I have got mkv's and all sorts going to it without issue (just install 2 codecs to get mkv going) all nicely snapped on the right side. Its brilliant having The Walking Dead S4 while playing Dead Rising 3 Also the XB1 feedback triggers really rock when playing Forza, I find the feedback very helpful and tbh I think all controllers need this if they are used for racing (wheels already do) Edited November 25, 2013 by ZeroHour

You mentioned installing codecs, you're using a PC to push?
ZeroHour Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the info. You mentioned installing codecs, you're using a PC to push? Yeah I wanted to test using the native app's inside windows (8.1) but I didnt have a codec to unwrap mkv automatically for wmp. A lot of files played without the mkv issue or any codecs. You can use a few other open source ones and I *think* I should be able to push from android but not tested yet. Also I am aware of a few apps for mac/ios that can too but likewise I have not tested them yet. Edited November 25, 2013 by ZeroHour
Arthur Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I *think* I should be able to push from Android but not tested yet. Streaming videos to an Xbox One on Android works fine. The video below shows the forthcoming AllCast app in action.
ZeroHour Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Any of the few unlucky enough to have a DOA Xbox One will get a free game as well as priority replacement: Xbox One owners with hardware issues get complimentary game | Polygon I wonder if sony will match with all the BLOD stuff.
ZeroHour Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 For those curious about Blu-ray playback quality blu-ray.com has done a review: Blu-ray on Xbox One: An Introduction. The Xbox One's Blu-ray player certainly isn't one for the home theater enthusiast. Picture is solid and sound is excellent, but it lacks precise tuning adjustments. Such audiences will want a dedicated player in their rack. However, the Xbox One just may be the perfect family room Blu-ray playback device for both the casual viewer or family or even the enthusiast who wants a capable second player outside of the home theater. Voice commands are a dream and they work very well at a high percentage rate of accuracy. The failure to navigate disc menus with verbal commands or hand gestures is disappointing, and that the Kinect more often than not fails to recognize commands during loud playback can be an annoyance. These issues, however, are much less likely to plague the casual living room experience, which seems to be Microsoft's target, anyway. Considering the smooth experience, fast access, the absence of glaring glitches, the terrific and intuitive SmartGlass remote app, the awesome Kinect interface, and all the other things the system does well right out of the box, the Xbox One is the clear winner over the PS4 in terms of overall entertainment integration and, more specific to this site and its audience, Blu-ray playback. There's no doubt the PS4 will eventually play catchup and at least rival the Xbox One, but Microsoft has certainly taken the lead and embraced the Blu-ray experience, once its rival, with open arms and an advanced, enjoyable, and accurate interactivity that's nothing short of a terrific experience all round. Oh, and it also plays some great video games. The Xbox One comes very highly recommended.

Microsoft bans XXXXBOX gamers for CURSING in online combat Not yet, I have heard all sorts of cursing and stuff on there though, the game I was in was R18 though, surely people can cope.
featured_spectre Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Its just as bad on the playstation, mind you, it shouldn't affect you if you dont curse all the time...I've taken to saying fudge..a LOT
LosOjos Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Got to be honest, I support this move... It's one thing to swear while you're having a bit of banter with mates (which I understand is allowed as long as it's party chat) but it is so irritating when you get some 12 year old shouting obscenities down their microphone in a constantly high pitched squeal. Ban the lot I say!

Guest Guest Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 How do you mute and add reputation on the one?
CAM Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 For excessive swearing yeah, but gamers occasionally have...expletive filled moments in games. Plus a ban for saying the word plonker in a video is hardly proportionate...
featured_spectre Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 (edited) Just a few questions for the one owners. Do xbox 360 mic pucks work on the one controller (and chatpad?) Are the controller charging slots the same as the 360 ones? Are the batteries interchangable between 360 and one controllers? I havent been too successful looking on my phone. Edited November 27, 2013 by featured_spectre
SYNACK Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 (edited) No new headsets are way better though with lit mute button on controller side and you can use smartglass for chat, no (its micro USB now), yes if you use aa ones, the charge and play is better but not interchangeable.
