Absolutely gutted about this. I'm a United fan but as a football fan the sport has lost one of the most influential managers it has ever seen.

 

Don't know what else to say really!!

Think it has been on the cards for a while, but he has been a fantastic manager over the years, It's good news for the United fans that he is staying on as a board member.

Be interesting to see what happens to the club now - might go through a few managers before settling on a long term.

 

Moyes is the early fav - wouldnt rule out The Special One yet!

As much as he can be seen in bad light and jokes made about things like "fergie time" he's got to be one of the most successful football managers ever and I dont think anyone will match what he has done with Man Utd and whoever takes over has some massive massive boots to fill

As a blue Im with you but I just have that horrible feeling - Jose said he fancied the Utd job at some point in his career :pout:

Pretty huge news. Not even close to being a Utd fan but have always admired and respected him, even though he can be an arse on occasions. Incredible to think he's been there since I was 2 years old, the whole time I've followed football he's been ever present.

 

Expected him to go a couple more years to be honest

English Football will not be the same. This is a huge loss for the game. 26 Years of success deserves some respect surely???

He's at the top and on the verge of poor health with that pending hip operation. Perfect time to retire, that's a long time to be in any job. :) I hear he isn't jacking it in entirely though as he has a director position lined up. No pressure on his successor...!

Surely, that's like walking up to a group of people and saying "I don't care about whatever it is you're talking about....and I want you to know that!"

 

Anyway...good riddance to Fergie. Always came across as a nasty piece of work. Banned the BBC because they exposed his son in a Panorama programme.
