Phil,

I'm a bit disappointed that the update has been released so late on a Friday afternoon meaning we have to wait until Tuesday for the service desk to reopen to enable us to request it... in reality this means we can't run it until Tuesday evening which means another day with SIMs barely working at all.

@Sam_Brown I'm afraid we had to get results back from a volunteer LA before we could release to everyone. I note your comment though and will give thought to other ways of working.

As a mater of interest, did the emergency patch not return your system to an acceptable speed?

There was a sticky on support net with all the details in but I can't seem to log into it at the moment. Seems to not be letting me log in...

Anyone else having issues getting onto support net?

I've been having issues for over a week.

If you kill cookies you can get back to the main page sometimes but it either fails on the homepage or fails as soon as you log in. :(

Performance improved but no where near to the standards it was before the recent upgrade. One of the issues I think was that for us the staff log into SIMs at the beginning of the lessons all at the same time to take the registers so that initial query was still being run by ~100 people at the same time. They'd close SIMs and the same would happen at the beginning of the next lesson next time they logged in!

It's all that bureaucracy - so many forms to fill out.

In all seriousness though, this was a serious misjudgment in terms of code impact and the re-writing had to be tested thoroughly.

Just rang up support to request the patch and they are saying they will look into deploying it...

Has anyone actually downloaded, installed and tested the new release?

still advisable to hold off actually running the upgrade???

im guessing there must be a cut off where everyone needs to have it installed regardless (the upgrade and any patches there after)

I had been holding it off for some time but our Data Manager informed me that he needs to run Census next week which requires the latest version of SIMS.

this is true but i dont want to potentially cripple sims within the school just to complete a census, still awaiting some instruction from our LEA as the did pull the upgrade but we havent heard anything back from them yet

Well unfortunately, you don't really have any choice. Census is something that has to happen. Believe me, I was trying not to update SIMS at all. Maybe they should release a "stable" version :p

You need it for the Cenusus (due on the 16th I believe?) It's a statutory requirement and has do be done, otherwise it could affect your school's funding. I don't think your business manager would be happy very if it could not be completed on time.

I doubt they would, i wonder if they would appreciate it if i off loaded the large amounts of ear ache slow performance brings lol

I added two vCPUs to the SIMS server after the patch. It made it usable again but annoying as it worked fine with just two, including FMS and Discover.

A very disappointing release. Has it actually been load tested?

SIMS is a bloated old monster reliant on old technology (mapped drives). Teachers are crying out for a simple web based register (without paying for the same feature again).

Does anyone on here remember this happening last time they changed the homepage? How about then they used to do 6 releases a year - 3 with "new features" and 3 with fixes to the "new features". Pretty sure the census bits wasn't in the "new features" - maybe I remember the old days differently now.

Not sure "load tested" and Capita are compatible - unless you go via a paying customer :p

I'm more familiar with the re-release era. IE: SIMS Summer 2012 v1, v2, v3, v4 etc. 17 assessment patches were needed fore that release if I recall correctly!
