Sam_Brown Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 (edited) Just downloaded the patch and applied it using SOLUS. Only took about 30 seconds but managed to apply it with no issues. Started SIMS and managed to log in without needing to upgrade the client which is always a bonus. Seemed to load up the front page a lot quicker but that could be down to kicking everyone else off it before running the patch. Won't know until tomorrow but am hopeful. vikpaw Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Just logged into supportnet for the first time ever. Can't find the article. It's currently dated 3rd May, so something is amiss. What might happen is that things that are flagged as 'new' get priority, so click on my profile at the top and then i think it's the display tab on the right, or one of them and increase your default number of news items. It might appear. If not, contact them and get it looked at.
Joxta Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Just thought I'd chip in here. Performance of my SIMS server has been diabolical since the Spring release. I applied patch 18148 last week Tuesday evening, and performance was much better, but only for one day Last night, I've applied the new patch 18180, and yet this morning, once all the teachers turned up to work, my server is sat at 100% cpu again (as attached). I'm well aware my server is not the most powerful beast around, but it was just fine until this release. What actual benefit did these home page changes actually bring anyone anyway?

barjoysee Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Just done the spring update last night our old server (Server 2003 R2/dual core/4Gb Ram - upgrading in summer) is struggling but closing Solus 3 helped free a bit of resources ! Think we need the old home page bringing back ! Will do a reboot tonight and see if it speeds things a little. http://i41.tinypic.com/33kympf.jpg

Not as I understand it. 18148 was the "quick and dirty" patch, which changes the refresh interval of the homepage timeline thing to 30 mins. 18180 is the "proper" patch, that optimizes the SQL queries run on the server. Personally, I did both, and have noticed little improvement. Your mileage may vary. I would still do both, however, as the refresh interval being set at 5 mins (as per the original Spring release) is downright stupid. What changes that much during a day? 2

I dread to think about those poor primary schools with their SQL Express setups where the SIMS server is the only server and also does all their shared files, and is probably just a souped up Windows XP desktop machine. 2

mrbios Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Installed this patch at lunchtime today and i've noticed our cpu load to be signifcantly lower than it was this morning....only a rough test though so will have to see over the next week or so. Be interesting to see if vmware flags up any CPU usage warnings as it has done every day for the past few weeks on the particular host SQL is on.

Though by the person with a quad core and 8 Gb of Ram being maxed out I'd lay the blame at the new update!

Has anyone else seen and sorted this issue? Someone else had this problem yesterday, restore your backup pre-patch and try again, if it still fails then i'd get on to sims support.

We had this in a school yesterday, the patch has done something to the time line and broke it. Any users who have the time line on their homepage will crash out with that error once they have logged in (ie, almost everyone in school minus the office staff). The only way to resolve this to restore the backup taken before the patch was applied. I logged this with capita as a P2 yesterday morning in the hope Capita would contact me quickly and be able to fix it. I've still not had contact from the Capita help desk about this. The school could not wait so did a restore. Seriously shoddy effort from Capita!!! Edited May 9, 2013 by Rawns

This appears to have made no difference (but I guess that's a separate issue!). IT on the phone to Capita who are sorting it now.

There apparently was an issue with Patch 18180 which has caused the "Cannot find Table 8" error, odd why it's only affecting specific sites though. It has been replaced with patch number 18205. resin1 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Probably unfair to say, cos who knows whether they increment through the numbers one by one or release each one, but when you look at patch # 18180 released, what was it Monday this week?, and then see today or perhaps it was late yesterday, # 18205, a layman could conclude they have had to patch 25 different product issues in that space of time. Worrying? :-)
SBennett Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Well, I was hoping that I wouldn't have the issue. Fortuantely, I don't have it as bad as some schools but the CPU is just jumping around like crazy. Did they also changed the Emergency Alert Button? I had never seen it before but I've managed to accidently click it twice today. And so have other members of staff. Weird.
