Dos_Box Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 It appears that a large chunk of us here in the NW of England and North Wales are due for quite a bit of snow in the next few days. Some reports I've seen show 2-3 days so far. Snow is pretty rare in this part of Lancashire and we usually have to drag the kids of to the Pennines or the Lake District to go tobogganing but not this time I'll have to see if the kids school is going to close tomorrow first, but it's at time like this I think the gods I have a 4x4 I just started cycling back to work this week as well! Any other areas looking at getting some of this?
ben604 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I'm meant to be going to Sheffield to see a friend in a play tomorrow, from the Wirral. Doesn't look like we'll be making it across the Snake or Woodhead passes
elsiegee40 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 My eldest is supposed to be returning home from Lancaster Uni on Saturday... I'm starting to wonder if that will happen.
Dos_Box Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 We have rain Lot and lots of rain *sigh* Heh, that's usually us here in Lancashire. We get The stuff Ireland hadn't quite finished with
Singist Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 We're supposed to be going to Gisburn Forest to ride the trails and for the opening of their new hub. Guy Martin is cutting the ribbon. I have a feeling the weather is going to scupper our plans now. I hope not!
DT2 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Night before last it started about midnight here, didn't ease off until 3pm, by which point we'd had 23 inches dumped on us..... And more due!! Although, I'm not complaining, I love snow. Just makes for hellish driving, and I always feel bad driving past cars off the road, though it is funny watching a ford or chevy driver's face when they need a tow from a Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep

Singist Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I would imagine it would be quite bad up Gisburn Forest way :( I will get out on this bike yet this year, brand new for Xmas and only been on it twice. Damn the British weather!

I hate to break it to you, but it looks like the Wirral will be getting it quite bad according to the met office. It dosen't help that we'll get gusts of up to 50mph over the region as well!

BassTech Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I once drove from Birmingham to Essex in a 1L fiat, it was blizzard conditions the whole way down! Man-up!!
ben604 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I once drove from Birmingham to Essex in a 1L fiat, it was blizzard conditions the whole way down! Man-up!! If only the Snake Pass was flat, straight and had 3 lanes each way...
ICTDirect_Dave Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 If only the Snake Pass was flat, straight and had 3 lanes each way... I once drove over the Wolds from Scarborough to Chesterfield in a Berlingo with 2" on the road and more coming down! The worst that happens is you get an unexpected swim in Ladybower! Who wouldn't want that in a snowstorm?
VeryPC_Tom_M Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 We had a scattering of Snow here yesterday morning, but it's all gone now However... BBC weather is reporting snow from about 2am tomorrow morning, continuing until 6AM on Sunday!
Sunnyknight Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Try driving in weather like 2 years ago (december time). RWD Merc, on ice, on the m6. Every single car was stacked in the mid lane. No one went on the lower or upper. Spun out when going above 10mph. We must have held up traffic for about an hour just by correcting the spin out lol Why? It pooped it down on the way back from Lemington Spa.
sonofsanta Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I've had an e-mail from my head already, which is unusual Dear Matt Hopefully I won’t be contacting you but its forecasting heavy snow for tomorrow light from 6.00ish and then heavy by 9.00. Low temperature and wind so if it arrives it will stay and may drift! Website Ready! So fingers crossed for a long weekend...!

sonofsanta Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Well that was anti-climactic. The only problem I had driving in to work this morning was at a temporary 4-way traffic control for roadworks; the cameras on the lights had gotten covered with snow so were only letting half a dozen cars through at a time. Bah!
bladedanny Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Fair amount here in Sheffield, nothing show stopping though. Snake and woodhead pass closed though.
