i do hope BT are paying attention to this as i live in rural hampshire and i get 1mb on a good day. and BT are saying they cant do it pha when they have the 2 city's eather side of my village on infinity 2

I live in the suburbs and only get a max of 1mb. In comparison your better off

ditto i live a few miles from leeds and get 1mb apparantly 400 people on the roadside cab isnt commercially viable

I know people locally doing a similar thing than this, in Llanrhidian on the Gower, they have a consortium working to install proper fibre to the local area after BT basically said that "2mbps" (which was very ropey) was the best they were going to get and they werent going to upgrade anything further for those people, because of the geography of the area and the exchange location.

B4RN are an inspiration to all rural areas. There's absolutely no need for anywhere to be isolated with their internet connection in this day and age!

I can get 2Mbps via BT et all, currently have 60Mbps from Virgin (can get 120Mbps in the road)

 

This is in almost central Birmingham, 2 meg, in the second city!!! What chance do the sticks have!

I get about 9Mbit in my rural little town, which is pretty good so far. Somerset have just signed a deal with BT to get FTTC installed down here too I believe, by 2017.

I use a company call Boundless Comms (Rural High Speed Broadband, Lancashire, North West - Boundless Communications) to get a Point to Point Radio Feed for my broadband. I was getting 0.5mb up and down, I now get 10mb down 5mb up, and all for the same price I was paying Sky.

 

They are invovled in a lot of these rural initiatives and helping people get better broadband, but now I want 500mb! lol..

They are great people at B4rn AKA Broadband 4 the Rural North

 

They have some great blog posts online to read and some good photos on Facebook as well so well worth a look at them. You can even for a small fee have you name on a section of the fibre ductwork so you are part of the network wherever you are in the UK or even world

 

I live on the edge of it (about 20 minutes drive away which sounds a while but its all rural here!) so have seen the signs and know some people on it / waiting for it to arrive and good luck to them. One of the directors is one of the original guys behind CLEO when it was Lancaster University and other directors are from IT / Telco background so they know there stuff

There was a self laid fibre with the help of a company setup to Spurn Point in the Humber a few years ago to assist with getting a decent connection. Cannot find a decent web link to show it but there are similar things setup all over the place.

We live in a small village outside the town and don't have main gas but we do have speeds upto 100mb from Virgin Media.
