Lovely release. Liking the new reports, wishing for a timetable template so we can kill Nova-T4. The direct debt feature in FMS should keep the Finance people happy.

It's been done before, but usually after a request from a member. In fact this is the first time i've noticed Capita advertise them, usually it's in a KB article somewhere if at all, unless requested.

 

Also, there is a no password access Capita site where you can download the files, in addition to many LA mirrors, so it's not exactly hidden.

 

It's only upgrade files, what can you do with it? I can pull it if you think it's dangerous or illegal...

Until something goes wrong and you need to call techsupport!!! Then you're up a creek. But, point taken.

Rule #1: Take a backup beforehand.

@Avalon - my advice is always to test. the best way to do this is set up a virtual machine.

true many past upgrades were plagued with problems, but the recent ones have been very straight forward. (at least for me)

 

Your issues are most likely caused by data discrepancies between the old system and SIMS. If you can set up a virtual test system, you can hopefully iron out these issues before you upgrade your live system.

 

Search in this forum for how to set this up if you're not sure. which reminds me, Bossman, asked me for some guidelines so he can do this too and i haven't dug them out yet. If you need help let me know, or post in one of the relevant threads, just bear in mind Spring Break starts tomorrow!

basically we get an 'incompatible database' message on the client machines after running the the update on solus on the server.

 

the client does not seem to attempt to run simsload.exe but cannot see why, permissions to the whole of the program files\sims folder seem fine

Look at the shortcut that fires up Sims - does it call simsload.exe and pulsar.exe or just pulsar.exe?

 

It should be

"C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net\SIMSLoad.exe" "C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net\Pulsar.exe"

I realise that no harm was intended but these URL's were published in an area reserved for paying customers. I will in future ensure that they are password protected.

surely the link you click on on the client is for simsload.exe no?

 

give permissions to windows\temp, best thing is to run simsperm.bat

 

also, check your connect.ini and sims.ini files point to the correct place. if not, it wont know to upload.

 

i vaguely recall that before when it failed, you used to get the option to run sims without upgrade, whereas now that option is removed to stop failed installs getting into data.

Are the uses clicking on the shortcut on the desktop? Normally this is missing the simsload bit. As for permissions, I would set it via Group Policy. There is a topic on here about it, somewhere...

 

Personally SOLUS3 will solve all those pesky problems. I would however, wait for Phase 2. Doesn't solve your problems now, but it will.

Glad someone else is seeing this also. Nothing that I can see has changed on my system but the clients are not being updated correctly and now the ones that I manually have upgraded are slow as a snail.

 

Its the same setup as before, support told me to run the exe's in the setup folders of the server to update the setup folder but that didn't help.

 

Oh and Solus 3 is useless IMHO. Tried it twice now... its still rebooting the clients without notice and for some reason it overrules the mapped drive.

I have been experiencing all the above various clients, I ran the simsinfrastructuresetup; removed all installed components; reboot; ran sims.net and this resolved my problems. I don't know what the 'official' fix is.

Look at the startmenu in the all users profile. Check it has SIMSLOAD in front of Pulsar and make sure the SIMS.ini, has the correct Setups directory in it.
