Greetings
this is my first post in here and just wondering if somebody has experienced this problem, I tried to install a piece of software from logmein.com for Remote Administration, but after I installed it, I could not watch videos, I uninstalled the software including one video codec it was the possible responsible for this problem, but it did not solve my problem, so I went to DirectX to check settings, and the options for Directdraw, Direct3D and AGP Texture Acceleration were disabled, any ideas how to force activation of this settings?
Video Card is NVidia FX 5200 128 MB
Windows XP SP2 Pro
what version of direct x have you got installed and have you got the latest graphics card drivers ( also what graphics card does this machine or machines use ? )
I have the FX5500 and haven't noticed any similar issues.Originally Posted by MyDejaVu

Trot off to the Nvidia website and download the latest driver package for a start. Then trot off to MS and download the latest version of Direct-X and reinstall that.
The Nvidia driver will look after the DirectX stuff for you. If you right-click your desktop and select your monitor from the NVIDIA menu you will see the options (or at least I do on my 7800GTX which uses the same driver package IIRC).
On your display properties under settings > advanced > troubleshhot make sure the 3d accerleration slider is pushed up to full.
hello there
I do have the latest driver pack (93.71), directX is 9.0c, in the troubleshooting tab Hardware acceleration is set to Full.
uninstalling/reinstalling drivers has not worked, reinstalling directx has not worked

I too have this annoying random problem. Both on Intel integrated chipsets and an Nvidia machine. Nothing short of a re-image fixes it (trust me, I've tried everything. The annoying thing about the Intel one is that identical machines either side are still fine and just random ones fail to initialize Direct 3D. DXDIAG shows it as unavailable too. Really, really annoying. I'm putting it down to a package over writing some system files with its own version. the trouble is that my images have about 40+ pieces of software on them, so I have as yet to track down a culprit.
what about restore points? have you tried going back to last good configuration? I would probably go into safe mode and install both driver and directx
Hello
I did something else, I uninstalled all pieces of software that I knew would use Hardware Acceleration, and uninstall drivers, then restarted and when Windows found the Video Card, I let windows to search for the driver online and it worked, now I have the options available. it is weird.
Hi,
We use to have the same problem with Netsupport. After viewing the client screen DirectX was disabled.
If it happens again check this setting in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Graphics\DCI
Make sure Timeout is set to 7.
Netsupport was setting that value to 0, which was disabling DirectX.
If it is 0, change it to 7, then restart the PC, should fix the problem.

Were having the same problem as Dos_Box here, what we've started to do is has we have two paritions on the hard disks we create an image file of the pc once its fully up and running and on the network and store it on the second partition. So when we discover Direct 3d has gone we just do an image from file to partition which takes about 5 min, the pc is then back up and running with no confi needed. We only recently discovered this issue because a teacher wants to use Game Maker with the kids after school!

I'm glad it is not just me ... Once Direct X goes pear shaped it seems refreshing the image is the only way...
YouKnowWho just been trying your solution and on our test machines has worked! Next step is to fix all of them lol.
How did you manage to find that solution?

It never entered my mind to search Net Support. We have Ranger Remote Control, yet i was having a look at net supports products and user guides!
That saves me us a job re-imaging just remote reg now!
