The 3 program I think is part of the V4 update, so that may be why you don't have it. Are you using psfwebportal513 rather than myportal as well?

Not sure how we're getting so lucky with it... the issue we've had were due to an external finance consultant doing part of a transaction... With regards MyPortal, in terms of the description field being short, if you enter an * (I think), it will then pop up a box to allow fuller entry when you tab on. You can also copy fields down by putting a "." in the box (useful for multiline orders with same nominal/cost centre). @Meldrew's missing order issue suggests something misconfigured either in sentinel or possibly document advancement either in distribution or MyPortal, but difficult to know for definite - are you raising a REQ, and this going to someone to REQAUTH before it goes PORD, or are you raising PORD? And searching wise, I think newer builds don't require the % - we're on build 22 - I think there may be some performance improvements in there as well. Doc emailer - do you have separate doc emailer, statement emailer and remittance emailer or are you still on the single program? We have the 3 program version and able to connect to O365 to send emails (logging in with 1 user credential but sending from shared account). And for those on less than V4 - if you speak nicely to them, you can do the upgrade yourself, but it's fairly SQL heavy (so if you're happy in SQL, that's fine). If you're on V4 looking to go to V6 - they're doing a reduced cost upgrade, but I'm negotiating a self install presently. I'll see if I can get one of the Dev guys to put his head in to give pointers.

Ah, yeah, brain didn't process the whole at home bit. If you run procmon, do you see the relevant network calls out to the CRLs? Do CRLs resolve correctly in DNS (thinking possibly hosts files)?

If you view the certificate what's the hierarchy like? Is the CA trusted (are you doing SSL interception somewhere and certificate not installed?)

We use PSF and are happy with it - important thing to do if you go with them is fully test the setup before it's deployed (they provide a list of things to test) - most of the complaints have been related to things which are user testing points (like do the POs etc appears as you want them to). It's built on SQL Server and so some of the basic support can be done in house (the odd reset of IIS for example, which is getting rare now). Support is usually fairly responsive on other bits as well, although I do have 1 open ticket at present which I haven't had a response on (thanks for reminding me to chase). When we purchased it was the only option that suited - what else are you looking at?

@jinnantonnixx - how did you find that little gem?

I seemed to hit an issues when trying to use dbattach to restore to a new DB name - I used the following procedure (which uses dbattach later): Restored BAK to HDD Ran “RESTORE FILELISTONLY FROM DISK='[filelocation]' Noted logical names of DBs and then did: RESTORE DATABASE [sims_test] FROM DISK='[filelocation]' WITH MOVE 'LogicalNameForTheMDF' TO ‘[databasefilelocation]\sims_test.mdf, MOVE 'LogicalNameForTheLDF' TO '[databasefilelocation]\sims_test.ldf' Then unattached from in SQL management studio and used dbattach to attach in (without doing this step the logins didn’t seem to work) So as you've already restored to a new DB name, you may be able to use dbattach to detach and reattach the old database on its new DB name and restore the logins

I've looked at the possibility of producing more glossy/promo type things in house, and the cost of doing so seems to be higher than going through external companies - with the volumes big print shops do, they can buy in the resources much cheaper than I could readily find them (biggest cost appeared to be paper when I was comparing for brochure type things). Of course, you may find differently, and if you do, I'd be interested in seeing on which aspects and devices you look at.

900GB Disk sounds like 10k or 15k SAS, on a good drive, I wouldn't expect it to take 24hrs (depending on usage of the server during that time) - your slow rebuild was potentially due to a failing disk. In terms of options moving forwards, as it's a vhost, I'd advise against RAID5/6 as the performance would not be good and look to raid 10 if possible, or stick with raid 1 and hotspare it.

It is supported - I had a hybrid running on 2010 - as above, check what SP you're on as there is a specific requirement from memory.

@Meldrew - not sure what you're using - there's no sharepoint involved in PSF... they can be expensive, but we don't see any real issues - what are they having to dial in for?

If your raid controller allows it, and you have space in your case, may be worth grabbing an additional disk and doing a raid level migration to RAID6 (not all controllers will support this), should then make a single disk failure a non-issue.

Can you try booting it to recovery and using disk util to see if there's up with the disk (or permissions on it). The only time we've had issues with our mac mini server was due to the disk. now replaced with an SSD and time machine backups onto a second hard drive, so can restore from there should the SSD fail.

Could go for a dell R430 (basic spec) which would come in at about 1k with edu pricing (single 1TB drive), then purchase drives and carriers, 4TB enterprise sata come in anywhere around 135-170 each, and a 120GB PM863 SSD can be had for 80ish (ex vat), so with carriers off ebay, you'll be under 2k for that.

Rack or tower format? Rack wise, supermicro barebones, tower wise, I found dell were actually quite cheap for the chassis etc, and just put the cheapest hdd in their spec, then bought other hdds and ssds and carriers off ebay as the drives seem the expensive bit with them.

Less said about building regs the better... which reminds me, need to chase up a certificate... Might be worth contacting the builder who did it - they may be willing to replace it at cost of parts - or it may at least be worth finding out if they're part of a trade organisation such as fensa

Looks like they're meant to be used in lofts where there's normally already insulation between main house and loft. Cheap way of doing things, and I don't think if it was done like that nowadays it would meet building regs. Out of interest, when was it built/work last done on it? I would have thought in terms of replacing, if you ensure the replacement is the same dimensions, that would reduce the labour costs and should be a fairly straight forwards out and in for any builder. Get a few quotes. And Velux are brand that is most well known and work well. There may be other costs to consider (building regs), but you would need to investigate this and decide if there's a requirement...

@abillybob - Is the skylight you can reach noticeably colder to touch than other windows in the same room? If you know someone with an IR camera you could take a look with that as well from the outside and see if the skylights show warmer than other windows for example. If it's the WLI or WGI model range and not the FWL/FWR it would appear to be single glazed, so I'd check the model (if there's a number on it), or look at the glazing unit itself, it should be fairly obvious if it's double glazed. @LeMarchand - it would appear that it's possible to remove some cavity wall insulation, however, not necessarily cheap capex (couple of grand), however you may find reduction in heating bills, less maintenance relating to damp etc and a generally warmer house

Are the skylights single glazed? If double glazed, it may be that the glazed unit has failed - the condensation is caused when warm damp air hits a cold surface - in a double glazed unit, the inner glazing should be the same temperature (or near as anything) to the inside pane. I'm assuming that you don't get condensation on any other windows in the room or on the walls? The other thing to look at its what temperature your thermostat is set at, and with heat rising, the location of this may mean that the air at the 30ft high skylight is warmer than the rest of the house, and so a greater temperature differential with outside which may exacerbate the issue @LeMarchand - cavity wall or single skin?

@jonspurs - I'm currently trying to get this working - do you know what URL you had to set unauthenticated for?

What's your FC infrastructure like? It could be a time to look to move to iSCSI or a different storage tech over a different path type - may open up a range of other options. Storage wise, most solutions now offer some form of SSD caching which will give you some performance improvements, capacity is easily gained. The other option to look at is all flash, but it depends on what load you're hitting onto the storage (ie iops, volume of data written).

From the last info I got about this, licensing for FTE covered for staff use and not student - has this definitely now changed?

Wow - is that an old RM thing, I'm sure there used to be one which looked like that in my secondary at the turn of the century...

I've self built our virtual hosts - it seems easier to self build rack than tower servers (from a cost comparison point of view). Started pricing a tower xeon based server and dell came out cheaper (well, I'll be sticking our own SSDs in, but the core parts worked out cheaper with dell). Just can't find chassis/mobo for the right price! Rack wise, there's loads of supermicro barebones which fit, may have SAS onboard (RAID as well) and come in cheaper than the big makes.
