  1. These might be worth a try. http://openofficetechnology.com/OpenOffice_Installation_Transforms
  2. He He! He got old my job!
  3. Might be worth building it virtually first. Tools like VMWare converter can easilly migrate from virtual to physical once you have it all set up and running smoothly. Doing it that way at least you still have the old stuff to fall back onto.
  4. Thanks! I'm going to ITSS - 8O - As a Support and Development Officer. So I get to turn up at schools unanounced, bugger up all your stuff, and then leave you with the mess! Seriously though I'm hoping that it will be a good opportunity for me. As for the life channel, its nothing special, personally I wouldn't pay for it if you have too. We had it installed for free as we were the first school to get it done. To summarise my feelings - Life Channel = expensive digital signage.
  5. My job! now advertised. Moving to the LEA! 8O
  6. Fronter stands by itself. It can be hosted in house, but from what I know it is usually hosted on their Linux servers in Norway (at the university of oslo). I know ours is. It is 100% web based, and is as far as I know SCORM compliant. What is the difference between a VLE and a MLE?
  7. In a Nutshell - MS Licensing is a mine field! If in my mind there are realistically two choices: 1) buy the software outright or 2) lease the software. If you opt for option 1 then you own the software, i.e. one copy = one licence. MS can also allow you to adding things such as Software Assurance, but that just complicates things further. For now assume buy outright means One copy - One licence. If you are considering Open Office then this could be a choice for you. Option Two is what is referded to as a Schools Agreement, i.e. you pay MS each year to use their software, effectively leasing the software from them. with this option you are always licenced for the latest version, and the licences are backwards compatible. Whilst Option Two is cheaper than option One, it can be expensive to get out of should you decide to go down an alternative licensing route.
  8. To recover a deleted file you have to access the files original location through a share. When you say there was nothing when you right clicked I assume you were trying to access it directly on the server? try doing it from the workstation. If memory serves me right there is also some software that you need to install on your workstation to access the previous version.
  9. Sad thing is, I have one of them!
  10. SIMS Equipment monitor?
  11. i think that i is probably more to do with the fact that he wasn't consulted about having another bod in his team, than a case of not wanting you.
  12. If the computers and printers are still in a useable condition the give oxfam a call. They'll pick them up and recycle them for you free of charge.
  13. Just going to agree with what the others have said.
  14. We Run Fronter here and have done since 2004. It works for us. Tech support is spot on (rarely needed it). It all depends on what you intend to use the platform to deliver. For us it was to enhance our communications, so all our email, Instant Messaging and messages go through it. Getting staff to use it as a learning platform is another matter entirely!
  15. I'd go for four, but you're probably going to say two. Two Full time and two Term Time Only.
  16. FAST came here once, but they we're just trying to sell us a course to make sure that we knew we needed licences!
  17. Was that the SA password?
  18. Sounds like you have a loop. can you try isolating different segments of the network to pin it down?
  19. Where is the job at? I never noticed any positions advertised on the extranet today?
  20. Personaly if you are looking at a whole infrastructure upgrade then I would look at people who are local to your area, or those that are known to be small but reliable. At least that way when you have a problem you know the person that you will be talking to. Just My Thoughts.
  21. It doesn't seem to bad a price, but ask yourself do you really need the training, or could you do it by buying the books and learning it yourself?
  22. Good Luck for the future!
  23. WDS in leagacy mode, then into ghost corp 10.
  24. Use it and loose it disposable charcoal one for me. 5 of them for £6 at my local shop!
  25. Whoops! Missed the independant schools bit!
