Deffo make sure your backups are the best you can make of them, especially with how Education is being targeted recently. Would do some documentation on regular backup tests etc

At my previous place, we would normally do the run ourselves if we wasn't busy. if we was the sparkys would run it and we would terminate it.

Try re-installing VMware tools could be a driver issue. Another idea is to revert previous windows update

+1 for Laurence Systems YouTube Channel, some good info about firewalls on there. Can also recommend pfsense and opnsense as I’ve both used them in production My home systems are currently handled by a virtual opnsense box I have 0% complaints a great open source firewall / router

What're people using for their Hyper-V hosts?

Depends how you want to set it up ? If your just going to have hyper-v on one box it makes sense just to have traditional raid eg 2x128gb drives in raid one for os Then another array for hyper-v data Storage spaces is normally when you have multiple hosts in a cluster. I believe you can use it on a single server if you want to but I don’t know many people who do this for single hosts -
Just ordered a Aruba instant on to replace my 15+ year old hp switch at home. Has anyone else used these at work or at home? What are your thoughts on them if you have ?

We are using Avalon fire and security here , great guys the system works great , they handle the installs , we program the doors . We have our net2 running on a server 2019 box on one of our hyper-v server -
This , we had to enable network stack on our stone machines for them to boot into wds

Hows your nics setup , are they in a trunk ? or are they standalone. Our ip is set in our virtual switch as all 4 nic's are in a team/trunk
