why are pc's allowed to use port25? they send email via on prem exchange right? using mapi only? or di you use smtp too?

the old machine you referring to is the exchange server? do you allow port 25 from client pc's?

exchange will use the firewall IP which is provided unless your ISP can allocate anow which they can do but will obviously charge. You can have exch going out bypassing the firewall using a public ip address, same for incoming. depending on which black list you're on either you will get removed automatically or you will have to request removal. had a quick sca through the post. ...were they using exchange as a relay? did a user Name and password get compromised?

does OWA work? Are you sure all the transport services are started?

Is autodiscover working correctly? Test that. Check the connection status and see what that shows?

my preferred option is to create a new DB after a repair, that way you know you have a clean DB. create a test DB and test DPM to rule out the existing DB. And try just the DB without that folder which has non exchange data.

using the eseutil can have some effects which you may not see, you did the thing to run /d after. This is just a simple test to how DPM behaves with a new DB. If this still fails, then I would say it's a DPM issue and we can work on that...

Same rogue email? Check hidden/corrupt rules via MFCMAPI? Checked MT logs? Any mobile devices?

You probably want to move the logs on a daily or weekly basis depending on how busy the server is. This will keep the TL down and will be there if you need them.

sorted? what logs do you have? the last full backup? no dag?

room/equipment mailboxes come to mind. However, without knowing all requirements cannot fully say that it's what you need.
