  1. You need to search the mailboxes, you need access to the mailboxes to do this. You can then use something like exmerge to search.
  2. 1. Consider using the archiving feature of Exchange 2010 for the mailboxes or a 3rd party tool. 2. Consider implementing mailbox quotas 3. Consider Retension Policies/MRM 4. Yes, it will increaae but it depends on what's already in your databases.
  3. That's seems to be more of an BA issue not Exchange. If you were to backup using the native windows backups I'm sure that would work, if you want/can try this this will prove it's a config issue/setup issue with BA. Something similar here - BackupAssist Support Forum • View topic - Exchange 2007 Issue
  4. 1. My last post never made it here, no you can't setup local accounts on a DC, local accounts before a dcpromo are turned into domain accounts. 2. It seems like you're trying to do it remotely which may not work on 2008 and you have to do a local install as per KB - http://www.backupassist.com/downloads/whitepapers/ExchangeBackupAndRestore_WP.pdf 3. I assume they mean create a local account on Exch and configure BA.
  5. 1. Just to clarify, is Exchange installed on a DC? 2. if yes, you can't have a local account on a DC, this wont work, it's a DC. 3. Where does it say that you need a local account for BA too? 4. I assume it's trying to use the same SAM name as the domain account.
  6. 1. Where are you trying to create the account? 2. Is that server a member server only? 3. Is BA your only option or can you use native Windows backup? 4. What's in the event log and can you post/upload the exact error?
  7. Correct, the actual images itself may not be displayed, text will, this will depend on the image location and if IE shows images on or not, depends how the message is viewed at the receivers end.
  8. "Exchange 2010? Yes you can" You sure for OWA you can? Im sure you can't?
  9. For your SAN Cert just add the FQDN of the server. If publishing externally then make sure your CN name is right.
  10. 1. Can you insert a image of the prompt 2. What are you internal and external URL's for web services? 3. How many CAS servers do you have? 4. Did you do the test mentioned above?
  11. Natively no you cant. here's some links you can try Image or picture in signature - OWA (Outlook Web Access) - WiMesh Solutions Manage Email Signatures centrally from your Desktop - For All Users Email Signature Manager - Features Add an Image to Your Signature in OWA | Slipstick Systems

  13. What is the cert assigned to and test email autoconfiguration and see what that comes back with.

    Exchange 2010

    1. To receive email from the internet you need a receive connector which you already have with the correct permission. This is created by setup.exe by default. 2. To send email to the outside world, you need to create a send connector, which isn't created by setup.exe. 3. To receive emails from the internet, make sure the MX records with lower priority points to Exchange 2010, then make sure if you have a NAT/Firewall that port forwarding is setup correctly. I would change the MX for testing to 5 for Exchange 2010 and 10 for Exchange 2003. 4. When you switch over for testing and send an email say from hotmail, do you get an NDR? 5. Up the logging on the Default receive connector to see if a connection is even attempted. 6. From an external host, try and telnet onto the Exchange 2010 external IP to see if it's listening on port 25
  15. When you move mailboxes a GB will be at the target if not more, but NOT at the source, I have never seen this in my experience or have seen this stated anywhere. However, a tiny amount MB if that will be at the source.
  16. Some catches like, you can only do FULL backups and not INC.
  17. 1. Those transaction would have been played in the DB. You can go ahead and remove them. If you want to be safe then copy them to another location if you feel uncomfortable. 2. Reduce the logs down to around the last 4 weeks and then perform a FULL backup.
  18. not sure what pricing you have but I thought for the education sector pricing was good?
  19. no worries, technically it will work, but you will still need a licenses as you're using Edge, it's an Exch feature. If however, you were using say IIS SMTP which is built into the OS, then you wouldn't need a licenses. As you're going to install Edge with the Exchange Media, you will need an Exch licenses.
  20. Oh ok, there's no impact and you dont have to restart any services if you worried about an outage. You can do this on the fly.
  21. Sure, sorry, the testing I'm saying is just a telnet test from the ISA to the new Exch server via a CMD prompt. This is just to verify that a connection and email can be sent from the ISA to Exch. XFOR: Telnet to Port 25 to Test SMTP Communication
  22. So the new rule for the new server is identical except an IP change? Go to the EMC>Server Configuration>Receive Connectors and turn up the logging on the appropiate connector. I assume you have the default 2 unlesss you have created additional connectors. If not do it on the Default connector. From the ISA server, can you telnet to the new Exch server on port 25?
  23. 1. Are you using publishing rules for SMTP? 2. Up the receive connector logging on 2007 and see what the logs say
  24. test tomorrow and post back, a simple telnet test would tell you.
