We have an offsite web server, and looking at the awstats i was shocked to see how much bandwidth we have gone through in just 4 days. 5.24 GB Bandwidth, 228620 Hits, 4076 visitors and 1947 unique visitors. Just one school, would love to see the traffic stats for our county web servers.

I don't go down to BETT till sat 16th. So if you don't get it, i will bring my one.

What is it you are trying to achieve? Just get the pc back to when you first made it, or keep an eye on your computers. If all you want is to get your pcs back to day one how about WDS! very easy to use, get hold of one of your pc make it perfect and ever have a problem, download and get it back to normal in about 30min. We have even used it to reimage a whole room doing 20 pc at a time. As for keeping up-to-date, wsus is your friend.

Very good website. Made a video for my nephew (6), uploaded a photo, input first name, what good thing he has been doing (eating all his veg)... Then played that i have just received an email from North Pole. The face on him, he was talking to the video as if it was a web chat and has promised me he will listen to Santa and keep eating all his veg.

I would agree, I have a degree in computer networking but other members of staff pop into the office asking for help on other matters other then computing and more then not we are able to answer. It’s just who we are, knowing one thing just seems..... lazy. Apart from learning to spell, I never had time for that! Or learning their names! That, or "MIND BULLETS"

@NifeWrench Not of much help but WOW, (1st) Server and you have 600 students and around 75 staff. Dont mind me asking, what was you/school doing b4? PS. Sorry Forum Dwellers for going off topic! Can't comment on the server (iPhone not best to view) but if you are setting up some linux NAS box iSCSI will have 0 problems for you, also FreeNAS or OpenFiler are good software to look into!

If you look around, pickup an old pc or build with as many sata ports as you can get your hands on and FREENAS it / Or Openfiler if you are that way !! you will get a lot more functions then most NAS boxes for around same price. Just takes a bit more time and tech knowledge than an off the shelf NAS. But thats the fun!!! Cheap n' easy isn't always the best

If you have your Moodle in house, how are people preparing CLEOs' Midas? they are saying that users will be able to (using there service) have a single sign-on for parents. But as information on Midas is hit or miss. Be interesting to find out how the pilot school get on in April!

@bossman Nice VLE, love the AUP on opening. So you have your hosting site point http://vle.bishopbarrington.net/ to your school moodle webserver. How do you go about firewall, protecting your school from external attack... A box with astaro gateway (or such like) installed and just have that in-between outside and moodle? I realy don't like the idea of having county hosting our moodle, to much work to get the basicest thing done.

I will get this out of the way, My school has no VLE! ............. We have just had our head of ICT retire and the new head of ICT seems keen to have a school VLE, About time, cool. To help i have been to several other high schools to see how they have made it work and at what level i should get involved. To start with i was asked to "make it" (Not much to go with, is it!) so i ignored that and have gone and made a front page. I got a lot of help from a colleague of where to start, and that week setup a sub domain on our website (hosted offsite, not lancs.sch.uk). I was recommended that i find a nice theme, alter it, add what i want to make the front page how the school wants it. then give it to county to upload. But to get it right 1st time, as county will get pissed off and start to ignore my requests after a time. (Not like we pay them, is it ) Im after some advice on how other school have gone about starting there moodle. I have a test moodle vle.garstanghigh.com installed on our hosting companys' server but can it stay there? or to host within school or at county level? Thank you for any help any one can offer!
