A quick fix I used in a similar situation was to create an Aspect (Comment) Called Head of Year. I then created a marksheet containing this aspect and bulk populated it. It means I can call it up in a report using Assessment result. A quick and dirty method but it works for me.

I agree with Nadeem, Mapilabs Mailmerge Toolkit Pro is excellent. It is best to attach pdf files in preference. Prepare them first and store them in a single folder and you can have personalised emails with a different pdf for each recipient.

[ms office - 2019] Excel Formatting based on values
skinsley replied to caffrey's topic in Office Software
I find ASAP utilities (free version) very useful for things like this. -
Hi, I have had to do something similar at my school so I have a word mailmerge document and an excel spreadsheet which I use. I have attached anonomyzed versions them in a zip file, please feel free to play around with them if it helps. You will have to recreate the link in the Word document as it is set up for my machine and the pathname for the excel source file will be different, but that is fairly minor. Just put the data into the spreadsheet, I have a SIMS marksheet which allows me to populate it easily. If you change the headings you can change the fields in the Word document. Hope this helps. This page may be of help if you want to use excel, but it will require some forethought and formula planning. https://www.get-digital-help.com/search-for-a-text-string-and-return-multiple-adjacent-values/

Hi, The 'Reporting' in the start up kit is not the reports which tend to be sent home, this I think is linked to Assessment Manager through Individual Report although it probably uses the reporting engine. Reporting in the Start up kit is basically everything in the Reports menu including the analysis tools and design/edit reports. Seems a silly way of doing it as the data seems totally linked - but that's SIMs.

[sims] SIMS Behaviour Report for all students taught by a given teacher
skinsley replied to JamLam's topic in MIS Systems
Hi In Sims go to Reports-Design Report and select Open an Existing Report, from the Open Report select Focus-Behaviour Incidents and open the Behaviour Incident Report. You should be able to save that as a Report for you under a different name and modfy it to extract the information that you want. The default output is Word List I believe, but you can change the output to Excel. Hope this helps -
Hi, the FSM end date is only populated when the student comes off FSM eligibility. If this date is within 6 years of the current date they are still flagged as PP. If there is no end date then they are considered to be still FSM and therefore PP and included in ever 6. To add to the confusion, if the student has got an end date but has become eligible for FSM again (after 6 Years from the end date) they are again ever 6 and until they have a new end date they are considered on FSM. I have attached a couple of Report Definition files (one Secondary, one Primary) which give Ever 6 sent from our LA support. If you import them, re-save and change the default output to excel they do help in identifying which students are in this sort of category. Oh, if they became FSM since the Census used for deciding on PP the won't be flagged as PP - just to make it even easier NOT! Try this Microsoft Access help, tutorials, examples, it is only up to Access 2010 but not too bad and quite well structured. I would advise that you get hold of either Access (Insert Version using Here) for Dummies or the Access (Insert Version using Here) Bible as they come with cd/dvd resources. A very good investment.

I think you will find it is because there is already a category called Subject under the CES Examination Services and you cannot have two Categories with the same name even if they are on different branches of the Category Tree.

In SIMS you can create User Defined Groups (Focus - Groups - User Defined Groups - New) but you normally have to add students one at a time, equally if you have Discover you can create Groups quite easily which can be accessed in SIMS. Whether these can be exported to Show My Homework I couldn't tell you as I do not have anything to do with that.

The data will still be there unless you deleted results. Was it the Name or Column Heading you altered on the aspect or did you just alter the Column Heading on the Template?

Exporting Sims Marksheets into one excel file by year group
skinsley replied to ahmer13's topic in MIS Systems
This sounds similar to something I do. The way I do it is to create a single template which contains the aspects which holds the current round of marks/Grades for all the subjects for a particular year. I then have a marksheet for the whole year, open it and export it unformatted. I do this for each year and copy all the sheets into a single prepared workbook with each year as a separate tab. I use the Reports-Student list-General Student list to create an excel spreadsheet which shows all student subject Groups and use this as a lookup. It takes a bit of time to prepare in the first instance but allows me to update, process and analyse very quickly, effectively less than an hour from completion of data entry for the whole school.Strand Analysis Master Modified 2019-20 Autumn Anonymised.zipStrand Analysis Master Modified 2019-20 Autumn Anonymised.zip I have attached an anonymised copy of the spreadsheet I use, feel free to play with it and adapt if useful. Exporting Sims Marksheets into one excel file by year group
skinsley replied to ahmer13's topic in MIS Systems
I believe the only way is to open the marksheets and export individually, either as formatted or unformatted, saving and then combining. There are a number of shortcuts and tricks you can use depending on how you want the results showing and what information you need but I would need more detail about what you want to achieve to answer specifically.- 3 replies

What I have done is create a marksheet with just the aspects I want to check on it and save it as a descriptive name with the prefix of my Staff Code. I select the result set(s) and group I want, deselect all of the other marksheets which appear in the marksheets list in the missing results list. When I populate the missing results only contain the aspects I am interested in. When I export to Excel I copy to a prepared sheet with a pivot table and lookups to class and teacher so I can see at a glance who I have to chase. It took about 30 minutes to set up my checking spreadsheet which I can re-use as often as I like. It does save me a lot of time when we have whole school data entry.

I had a similar problem, if it is still open and not closing try Ctrl-Alt-End as this can force a shutdown of that instance. Hope this helps Steve

[sims] Individual report template - result set
skinsley replied to sparkysdream's topic in MIS Systems
Could be a couple of reasons, first check to make sure you put in the correct aspect and result set (Check by using the show all characters option in word). Also check to make sure there is data in the aspect for that particular student or groups of students (I once spent over 40 minutes looking for a problem on the individual report only to find the teachers had not entered that data yet. Hope this helps. -
Hi, I haven't dealt with KS4/5 for a year or so since I moved to a middle school but when I was faced with a similar problem I cloned the Grade Set. I saved the new Grade Set with the same name adding a distinguishing suffix to identify it as being school specific. I could then edit the grade set as I wished. I did a similar thing with the aspect containing the results. I then created an assessment template with both aspects side by side which allowed me easily copy and paste. As I haven't had to do this for KS4/5 for several years I am not sure if this will still work, but I have very recently done something similar with KS2 data. Hope this helps

Comprehensive rather than 'easy'. We are lucky we have good support, but I would also recommend that you do the timetabling course just to help you get your head around the way Nova-T works - the manual you get from the training is very good. I would say that if you do that then Primary will be easier than Secondary. You didn't give your location so couldn't tell you what local support you would have.

Middle School (Years 5 to 8) - Any good?
-
Hi Jamidd, I have one that I use if that is any good, unzip it and add to SIMS. You will have to enter the appropriate academic Year at runtime. You may need to change the academic year in sims if you have a significant turnover of students and also the membership date. All the best steve PP list Any Academic Year.zip

How to find which all the students a teacher teach
skinsley replied to genesis's topic in MIS Systems
These should do what you want. Extract from zip and import into SIMS. S C KinsleyReports Staff Groups and Staff Groups with students.zip -
Reply Have you got SIMS Lesson Monitor Module? Most of what you want would probably be accessible through that.
