Can anyone tell me the consequences of running a Smoothwall box if the licence has expired ? What will stop working ? Is it just the blocklist subscription that will stop ? Before anyone suggests this is not a good thing to be doing, I realise this, but there's a slight possibility this situation may arise for us for a short period of time and I'd like to know the consequences in advance.

Yeah I've noticed that sort of attitude. I think umpiring is very similar to being an IT Manager, you work hard to do a complex job that very few people really understand to ensure that things go smoothly for everyone else and they can do what they want to do. If you're the centre of attention you're doing it wrong. I umpire because I like the satisfaction of making everything work smoothly and, if truth be told, I like being in control, but I definitely do not like being the centre of attention. Interesting about the radios, the guy running the course said he has a set of four that he takes to matches, I've never been offered one but might actually consider getting a set. I've certainly had situations where I could have done with explaining something or asking a question.

Sadly I wasn't able to make the scorers course that Norfolk ran last year. There's an 'Introduction to Scoring' course this weekend but not sure I can make that either. But definitely a major point made in the last course is "Scorers are your friend !", not that I ever doubted it.

Whoops, there you go, requires people to plan in advance, therefore won't be used. If you ask people why they have a car when it costs them so much relative to public transport the answer is always along the lines of "I like the flexibility / freedom". What they mean is they don't have to think ahead. In the modern world everyone has got used to having things *now*. Also the reality is that car costs are effectively hidden because they are charged in a different way to public transport. If people paid the real price to use their car per journey then it might have some effect e.g. if you got the car, fuel, servicing, insurance etc for free, but then paid a charge related to them every time you drove then it would make many more people move away from cars I bet.

Just completed my level 3 umpiring course yesterday, really good stuff. Have officially retired from playing and looking forward to doing a load of umpiring. Is it summer yet ?

Looking at this again it seems remarkably similar to an issue we had a couple of time where permissions on the home area share got messed up. Symptoms were that Office apps took an absolute age to open. Sounds a little similar.

I'd be tempted to try the reboot route you are planning on, servers, switches, routers, gateways, anything you think could be involved. We've had a very occasional issue where things have run dog slow and rebooting the core switch has cured it.

We're working towards this. Linking sites via their existing broadband links at the moment. We have a secondary and six primaries, secondary runs HyperV cluster with domain services, only got one primary integrated so far but they have a single server running a RO DC, file and print services and SCCM DP. Works very nicely over a sub 100Mb link.

I'm looking for recommendations for a cheap stills camera. We've recently banned mobile phone use by pupils in school and it turns out that they made significant use of them in food tech lessons for recording images of their work. Department has asked for three iPads so they can take photos ! Possibly the most overkill 'we need iPads' suggestion I've ever seen, but that's another thread entirely. OK so has anyone got experience of using cheap stills cameras preferably with something like universal USB cables to transfer pictures. We could probably pretty easily find something online but if someone has good experiences with a model I'd be grateful for recommendations.

Thanks for your reply. Perhaps it's easier if I explain the situation. We have two primaries linked to our secondary with VPN links. The primary hardware is well past sell by date and so I'm designing a new set up. It seems simplest for admin purposes to just subsume them into our main AD (and indeed we have capacity as I saw this coming). I don't think the links are good enough to run everything remotely off our servers, so they need local resources. So a local server running file storage and a DC (read only) seems to me the best approach. I've got a theoretical grip on how most of this can be done but not so much the DNS side which obviously needs to be sorted in order to get this all to work.

I want to run a domain across two different subnets. I'm planning to have DCs on each side of the divide but I'm not certain on how to get DNS to work across the link. Is it as simple as setting up a DNS server on either side and pointing them at each other ? Have I missed anything ?

We migrated using 5Nine EasyConvertor. I think there were issues using MVMC although I can't remember what now.

My mediocre season has hit rock bottom, the ECB is openly mocking me - They *know* how many runs I scored, they said it later in the email (Yes, it's a nice round number, very round). I just seem to have had no luck this season so far I have - been bowled having a swipe at a two bounce ball that wasn't called no ball, top edges a hook back to the bowler when there was virtually no one out on the leg side so practically any other kind of mishit would have been safe, mishit a rank long hop to point, lbw pulling a ball that kept horribly low.

I suppose I have to swallow my pride and a grebe with you on that.
