Well I'm taking the plunge and playing a game on the 1st of May. Sadly my father has been quite ill this year and I live 170 miles away and I'm his only viable next of kin, so I've had to cancel my umpiring appointments since I'd rather be available at short notice than cancel at short notice. But I've been offered a game and it's not a problem if I drop out as they have a spare so less pressure.

Doesn't time fly ? I think I need to polish up my knowledge of the laws. Our regular season doesn't start until May though, might be a few teams want umpires for preseason games though.
  3. We have the same issue, I'm guessing some sort of global problem. Edit - just checked again and ours have all reappeared.
  4. I guess one simple answer is probably SIMS. Their failure to produce a successful cloud based product (or indeed a 21st century product) leaves schools with little option but to change their MIS which is decidedly non-trivial. Plus concerns about cloud security and reliability, and an unwillingness to move off the 'biggest' product, both of which might have had some validity a decade ago but are increasingly irrelevant now.
  5. Motorhead at UEA. Stood next to the speakers at the front. Couldn't hear properly for a week. Saw them several times. I was very surprised recently to have a hearing test and be told it was 'normal for my age'
  6. You must have a very small dog.
  7. If she's 'educating' other parents in the school then I'd suggest the school needs to head it off at the pass by sending a letter out to parents. Beyond that I wouldn't engage with them. Also worth pointing out the Nocebo effect which isn't very well known but is the opposite of the placebo effect which explains a lot of the symptoms such 'sufferers' have.
  8. Ship on maiden voyage fails to make it to America.
  9. Astronauts set out for the moon, have problems and return home safely.
  10. I'd be cautious and define your terms very narrowly. Once you start allowing very broad terms of reference you'll get into areas of opinion. I'd only allow that if you have lots of good references for the company. The school employed a company to audit our IT and the report was very questionable, attempted to do a hatchet job on my team and I, failed to be system agnostic, questioned our choices of systems without providing any evidence that there were issues and came in with some fixed ideas that they tried to force on us. Had the school have bitten I'm sure their next step would have been 'And we can offer you a support service'. Largely a waste of money.
  11. Presumably some sort of illegal post-Brexit import ?

Well it could be. I suspect the regs will be revised soon after feedback.

That seem weird, would have thought it would be OK properly distanced, that's what's happening in Norfolk. One thing that strikes me as odd is they're insisting on the batsmen running in lanes, yet they say there's no danger from the bowler running past the umpire.

Oh wow, they probably looked good doing it ! There are over 100 teams playing in Norfolk.

Well I didn't think I'd be posting on this thread this summer but finally got to umpire a game on Saturday. Sadly it was rained off, but everyone was just glad to be on the field. We suggested ot the captains that trying to play 40 overs might be problematic given the forecast but they insisted on it. Managed on slightly over 30 in the end, but despite being really heavy it seems the rain was very localised, many other games in Norfolk went the distance. I felt really rusty, th nerves weren't helped by the local ACO secretary AND the development officer popping by to watch how we handled things ! https://swaffham.play-cricket.com/website/results/4467842
  16. 'Best' is a relative term, but even if you defined 'best' as it applies to you, I doubt anyone will have the in depth experience of all the available platforms to give you a definitive answer.
  17. We've got a stack of old Meru AP320 access points we've just taken out. They're pretty old but still work OK, they have mounting brackets with them. Just asking in case anyone is interested in them, perhaps for spares.
  18. That's the sort of reason I hate dealing with huge IT companies like Dell and HP. Customer service is terrible compared to medium tier IT suppliers, especially education oriented ones. Price may be a bit better but you pay in pain.
  19. I think we're all more tolerant in these latte days.
  20. That pun is weighing on me.
  21. I had an idea about a small one, more a sort of punnet.
  22. I was going to try and come up with something but I cycled in today so I'm two tyred

  24. You don't know this is badly labelled, probably some state in the USA where this is not illegal.
