  15. We really don't understand the odds at all as far as life is concerned. The last few decades have radically altered many of our perceptions on life and planetary systems. Life seems to be able to survive in conditions much more hostile than we first thought, but on the other hand our solar system seems to be rather out of the ordinary in terms of its development and configuration. We are refining the odds on life surviving and developing but we're still no nearer on understanding the odds of it starting in the first place.
  16. Not that hopeful. Because Proxima Centauri is a red dwarf the habitable zone is very close to the star, which means the planet is likely tidally locked. So one side blazing hot, the other freezing cold. Also a planet's magnetic field is related to its spin, so such a planet would likely have minimal or no magnetic field which would also mitigate against earth-like features.
  17. I don't regard respect as a binary thing. Yes you should give people a default level of respect, but they can qualify for higher levels by appropriate behaviour

  22. Could someone provide a little advice to someone who knows nothing about cars except how to drive one and has never bought or owned one in his life ? I have a friend who has an urgent need to buy a "cheap banger" and frankly we have no idea where to start. Is online shopping a good idea ?Can anyone recommend sites or dealers ? We're looking for something sub £1k and preferably cheaper.

  24. Hi I'm looking at MS training for my team. I've noticed that you can get self-study online training courses for a much lower price than classroom based ones. Does anyone have experience of these or recommendations of who to use ? My plan would be to allocate specific days/hours for training for my team members and definitely not be using this as an excuse to not lose a weeks worth of their time. Thanks
  25. But that's the whole point of an OVS licence, you don't need to worry about tracking individual licences. If licencing is taking up half of one IT person then you're doing it wrong.
