  1. Ouch, can you give me any more info, links or suchlike ? I'd like some ammo before I go an tell the Head of Training that the fancy new kit he's bought won't work until we replace the wireless network
  2. We got a fairly old Meru network (Wireless N) and we seem to be unable to connect newer iPads to it. Using a WPA2 preshared key, whenever you type the key in the iPad insists the key is wrong. You can *sometimes* connect if you select 'other network' and type all the details in manually but it's unreliable. Has anyone seen anything similar ? Any suggestions ?
  3. Something of a spoof methinks.
  4. I wanted to bulk delete all the German aristocrats off my phone but in the end I had to delete them von by von.
  5. Following on from that, will he be appealing ?
  6. I see you've found a new seam of puns here.
  7. Have you got any kind of a reference for that or just what they've told you ?
  8. This is all on a Dell VRTx chassis with two blades so proper hardware and SAN set up. I can assure you if it was all on one physical disk I wouldn't be posting here for advice, I'd be making some nasty phone calls !
  9. Thanks for your input. I've run the setup past our new support service and the guy seemed pretty OK with it. The brief I gave the installers was fairly loose, it was more or less, build me a Windows domain for this many PCs and this many users. Yes I was asking about this now before we'd committed anything much to the server.
  10. What sort of context would be helpful ? We've got about 1500 users and probably around 4TB of data.
  11. We're about to migrate from VMWare/2012R2/CC4 to HyperV/2016. We've used an external company to get the new domain and servers all set up for us and I'm a bit concerned about the file storage structure. All user home areas and all file storage areas are located on one drive (2TB default, going to need expanding when we migrate) of one server that is dedicated to the task of file storage. I don't know much about ways of setting up VMs for optimal storage performance, but having everything on one drive on one server just doesn't *feel* right to me. Can anyone offer me advice or failing that opinions ? Thanks
  12. Oh and since you have the requirement of different tickets going to different teams, we have exactly that here. We have one system with two input email addresses going to two teams (IT and Data), works pretty well.
  13. If you go into Admin under Organization Settings there's a link to set up sites.
  14. We've used this for years, even back when we had to pay for it. Good product, very configurable.
  15. Oh it was hardly revolutionary
  16. If you try that and they keep giving you excuses, remember they're just Stalin.
  17. The road to Hell is the E6
  18. Icy what you mean.
  19. I can see how that might create tension
  20. I agree, certainly up to a point. I certainly have sympathy with those who have to take such carpy jobs and are probably working in sweatshop conditions with hard targets and intolerant management, but those who attempt deception receive no sympathy. Also their scripts will be crafted to avoid giving you a situation where you can say no thank you and not appear impolite.
  21. I see everyone is flocking to this thread.
  22. Thanks, I'll reassess my goal but I think you just saved me.
  23. No need to bridle at his comments
  24. I found a nice thing that seems to work reasonably well. If you get a suspected cold caller at home or on your mobile, pick the call up but don't say anything for a couple of seconds. If they're using an automatic call centre system they'll assume they got a dud connection and will ring off. Any legitimate caller will usually speak.
  25. I have two approaches depending how I'm feeling. 1. "I'm sorry but it is policy that we don't deal with cold callers" (true. Team policy admittedly but policy none the less) 2. I am polite to them once. I tell them I am not interest in their services and if they rudely decide to continue talking then I no longer feel under obligation to be polite back. If I'm in a nice mood I'll reiterate my point and if they still continue I'll put the phone down. Cold callers mostly exploit the fact that most people consider it rude to terminate a phone conversation without mutual consent. Also reception are very helpful, we've given them a list of companies we deal with who get put straight through. They'll usually filter out obvious sales people ("Can I speak to your network manager") and ask them to email.
