Company to sort out cabinet cabling/infrastructure?
BassTech replied to BassTech's topic in Wired Networks
I've took a couple of snaps, these 2 are probably amongst the tidiest of them all but still quite messy. A lot of them have POE injectors that power our Ruckus wireless system, so that definitely doesn't help either! I just wish I had the time to do it - this summer and next summer are already looking to be extremely busy. -

Thanks for the info all - I feel slightly guilty for not doing it myself now -

I'd have a go at it if I had the time, but I just don't atm, department and budget cutbacks have made me one very busy person! Also we are a Grade II listed building, so all the ceilings are VERY high here, so this means a lot of these cabs are a good 10ft + from floor level. @Gaz - You're welcome to come and sort all of our cabs out - I will pay you in biscuits and coffee -

I wouldn't be confident I had the right equipment/knowledge to find out where all of the cable runs go back to, or the time to re-cable all of it. I've been in the NM job about 2 years now, and since back in the day it hasn't been looked after - it's literally 25-30 years of neglect. Just looking at some of the cabinets is enough to put me off doing it myself. I found one cable run where someone had literally used plastic cable-clips to run this cable OUTSIDE, around some brickwork, through a blocked drain (submerged in water) and back into the school(!) This was the backbone of one of our biggest switches, and if it had gone offline it would've been a nightmare! It's now been re-done properly, but that's just an example of the state it's in. -

Thanks, will ring them this afternoon -
We're looking to upgrade our network next year, but I want to make sure our infrastructure is all set-up and working correctly before then. Does anyone know a company that does complete network cabinet re-wiring/tidy-ups? 90% of our cabinets are a complete mess of cables, very few of which are labelled or colour coded. I've found a few 10m cat5 cables used for patching in a network point in some of them! The previous NMs before me didn't really keep on top of it and it's gotten out-of-hand over the years. EDIT: Preferably based in the West Midlands

Thank-you everyone - I think it's safe to say it's not my end then, it's a problem with the video! It's a very old link anyway so it wouldn't surprise me if it's been removed from the BBCs servers but the holding page is still in place.

Ah, interesting - thank-you for that. I wonder if the beeb have removed the video file itself.

I've got a teacher complaining that this doesn't work in school: BBC News Player They said it worked at home last night, but I'm struggling to get it to work at all. I've tried through Chrome using the VLC Web Plugin but it just sits there with the traffic cone icon. Through IE windows media player says connecting for a second then nothing happens. Would anyone be kind enough to give it a quick test to see if it works for you? Would be very much appreciated

White and gold here, colleague black and blue! what is this wizardry?

Does anyone know any decent suppliers that can quote me for Smoothwall? I've gone to them directly, but I'm also required to get quotes from different suppliers when spending over £5k.

Will give it a go on PS4, played the last hardline beta and wasn't impressed at all. Just a (poorly) re-skinned BF4. Hopefully that's changed.

As I'm sure most of you are aware, the default Camera app on the iPad is pretty naff. We're running into an issue where students are recording videos in lessons, and a 2 min video is coming out at appx ~ 200mb in size, which is ridiculous! I was thinking of disabling the Camera app using Meraki, then forcing a 3rd party app onto the device for students to use (one with half-decent video compression). Could anyone recommend a good app that does this? Preferably free

Did you find anything unusual last night? Curious

They're for talking to the dead, apparently. See what they/it wants? I've never used one, but my Dad did when he was a lad and won't go near the things now, back when he tried it he said the glass shot across the room and smashed, and all of the candles went out! Not sure myself, but he gets all scared when I try and ask him about it, like he's been traumatised

What about using a Ouija board in the house? Or you could go all Paranormal Activity and rig lots of night vision cameras around the house and document it?

Finally the 'Browser Choice Screen' update is history!
BassTech replied to googlemad's topic in General Chat
The thing I always didn't get about it was even if you wanted to choose internet explorer, you could only ever click on Install - Even though it's already installed on the system, which would then just take you to the IE download page. Surely this must of confused the hell out of less ICT literate users!? -
Yeah, same here - used to use Access but that was overkill for what we needed. Excel works well for us

Downloaded this today, I like it a lot! The only problem I have is that you can't add via points to your journey, which is the same as Google Maps. You can on the PC version of it, just not Android for some reason
