I ran this on the main switch today: #config #vlan 02 #name "RUCKUS" #ip address 172.10.0.20 255.255.248.0 #ip helper-address 192.168.3.59 #exit But still no automatic IP address... When I did #ip address 172.10.0.20 255.255.248.0, the switch replied with "The IP address 172.10.0.20/21 already exists."

Ah, I see where I went wrong now! I want to go and try it, but have "misplaced" our serial cable, so had to order a new one in. We have every type of cable EXCEPT a female to female serial

I'll have to double check the routing settings on our core switch, it should be: #config #vlan 02 #name "RUCKUS" #ip address 172.10.0.1 255.255.248.0 #ip helper-address 192.168.3.59 #exit Which is what I did last week :S

So, now it's set up as: Core switch Default gateway: 192.168.3.200 VLAN1 IP: 192.168.3.38 VLAN2 IP: 172.10.0.20 Edge switch Default gateway: 192.168.3.38 VLAN1 IP: 192.168.3.54 VLAN2 IP: Test computer Default gateway: 172.10.0.20 DCHP Server 172 range > Scope options > Router: 172.10.0.20 Still, no automatic IP When on the test computer, I can ping 172.10.0.20 and get a reply. I try and ping the DHCP server on 192.168.3.59, request timed out. Also get request timed out if I try and ping 172.10.0.20 from the DHCP server. Which makes me thing it's a routing issue on our core switch!

Ok, been playing around with it this morning.. Main switch (4108GL) - The default gateway is set to 192.168.3.200 on here. The VLAN2 IP address is set to 172.10.0.20 255.255.248.0. Test switch (2626-24) - The default gateway on here is set to 172.10.0.20. The VLAN2 IP address is set to 172.10.0.9. On the test client, I've put 172.10.0.9 as the default gateway, but it still only gets a 169 address :/ It works if I give it a static 172.10.x.x address, but still not getting it automatically

@sonofsanta - We can ping our DHCP (192.168.3.59), but only if we set our default gateway to 172.10.0.10 (Our squid server, using it as transparrant proxy for BYOD) If we set the default gateway as 192.168.3.200 which is our CISCO firewall then no reply to the ping. @localzuk - I will get them and post here

ip routing is enabled Good point re the 4100s - will look at updating the firmware on it as I don't think it's been updated since day 1! Do i need to configure the 4108GL in any way? I've created VLAN2 on it, as well as enable GVRP mode (which HP says automatically tags the correct ports)..

Hi, We have 2 VLANs set up here: 1 (DEFAULT_VLAN) 2 (RUCKUS) I am using our HP ProCurve 2610-24 to test it (which comes off our main switch, a HP ProCurve 4108GL), and have 'untagged' ports 2 and 17 on VLAN2 which are what x2 test computers are plugged into. I've set up a scope of 172.10.0.0/21 on our DHCP server, just for VLAN2 to use. I used these command to configure the switch: #Config #VLAN 02 #Name "RUCKUS" #ip address 172.10.0.1 255.255.248.0 #ip helper-address 192.168.3.59 But the clients still won't automatically get a 172.10.x.x address from DHCP. I'm sure I've missed something/set something wrong but can't figure out what! Any help welcome.

I can't get fiber at all (only live 5 miles from Birmingham city centre!) but do have Sky's ADSL2+ and found it to be very reliable, no speed capping and unlimited downloading is actually unlimited

It was a right pain to find, I think it's been phased out and now called IMC. I ended up installing V3.2, even though there seems to be a V4 I couldn't find the download for that version. It *looks* like V3.2 is free forever, at least for up to 50 devices. I downloaded and installed HP PCM yesterday (after searching through their terrible website) and that has been a big help, it's found all of the switches and even created a network map for us. It shows which ports go where and loads of other useful info too Will look into PuTTY as well, but it looks like the PCM software will do everything!

I got promoted from tech to NM in July this year, as the old NM left. Now there is me and a new (apprentice) tech. We are having a new wireless system put in at the end of Feb (Ruckus), so I've been trying to set up a new VLAN on our switches ready for BYOD. The problem is that there are only about 5 out of 15 switches that have any sort of record...No IP addresses, no labels or any documentation on the switches at all, so I'm a little stumped. They are all HP ProCurve switches (8+ years old I'd say), so what's the best way to find their IP addresses? Not all of them have static IPs either which is fun! I've found a few by looking at DHCP but there seems to be a lot of them missing, I also ran IP sniffing software which didn't find much :/ We don't have any old laptops with serial that we can connect directly to the switches. What makes it worse is that the cable tidying is atrocious in ALL of the cabinets - there are wires that lead no-where, cables that are about 5m long connecting two ports 20cm away...just a total mess! Like it got installed 20 years ago and never been touched since. What's the best way to approach this situation? The whole school could do with re-cabling from scratch, but that will never happen in reality, so I need to try and get things in some sort of order, somehow

I see, that makes sense. That part I still don't understand is, going back to the kid's iPhone scenario, that they can't browse the net without the proxy server being specified So, kid connects, gets IP from our DHCP server, as well as the default gateway, but when they try the internet they get "this webpage cannot be displayed" unless I manually input our proxy server into the iPhone network settings.

At the moment we do because we don't have transparent filtering enabled yet (waiting on RM). All internet traffic currently goes through our RM SmartCache2 server. When we do enable transparent filtering, how do the guest devices get filtered if a proxy server isn't specified? For example; Kid brings in iPhone, finds our SSID, enters the password...how does it then 'find' the internet? All this BYOD is new to me, so apologies for the lack of technical knowledge

We are getting Ruckus wireless installed soon, and I am looking at setting up our network so that the users connect, enter the password and that's it. No proxy settings needed. I've been browsing the forum and google, but still a little confused with it all. We have RM SafetyNet+ with transparent filtering - Is that all we would need to achieve this goal? I know a lot of people use WPAD/PAC files but I'm not sure if we would need this as well. We currently don't have any VLANs in school. Advice welcome

We have Sanako lab 1200 and currently use Sanako SLH-07 USB headsets with it, but they are failing quickly and we are having to replace them. We've been replacing them with new SLH-07 USB headsets, but are not really happy with the quality of them. Can anyone recommend some robust USB headsets that we could look at using instead? Need to be decent quality but nothing over £30 each, ideally. Thanks

We are looking at implementing an iSCSI SAN soultion onto our network, we are currently RM CC4 with 3 user servers, 1 MIS server and an exchange server (all physical). Are there any companies out there that anyone can recommend to me that could help us with that? Basically I'm just trying to find out exaclty what we need, how much it will cost (roughly) and if they do data migration that would be useful! Thanks

Yes, kids are kids. Take it on the chin an move on, if you show that it gets to you then you are encouraging them to carry on as they are looking for a reaction. Best thing to do is ignore it, only report it if it gets REALLY bad and turns into bullying.

Until after-sales. We are with RM as an ISP, leased line. Looking at moving away next year, it's terrible and their ISP support are near impossible to contact. When it goes down they don't tell us why, and seem to make things up.

Us too, installed the [update for Root Certificates for Windows 7 [November 2013] (KB931125)] update today on a few test workstations, but still get the problem. Are you getting the same issue then? @Michael There isn't an option to view the certificate through the Google drive app, so I'm not sure, maybe it is a Google issue then - I've just set it up today so I assumed the error was coming from our end.

I just want to unblock all as a test to see if it fixes the google drive problem, because even when the users click "Continue to the webpage (not recommended)." Nothing happens :S Allowing all of them is only a workaround for now until I can figure out how to allow certain websites with invalid certificates through.

I've been trying to disable certificate warnings for IE8 for a while now, but I've hit a brick wall. We are RM CC4 and their support has been useless *(to put it kindly)! All I want to do is disable all certificate errors in internet explorer (via GPO). I've followed various articles etc to do this but we still get the invalid certificate warnings appear all the time.
