We have just had a music teacher come into our school. He knows his music and has been given the task of teaching our primary kids garageband. I loaned him a usb keyboard to see what he thought of it since it was a reasonable price so we purchased a couple. Not really knowing much about music and lacking the ability to play any instrument myself, i was eager to get a pro's point of view. With a basic macbook, garageband and a £50 usb keyboard he was amazed at the clarity of the sound coming out at the other end, with no latency. You press a key and hear it. You can also configure the midi module/utility thingy as well but like i said i don't know much aboout the music side. This is quality out of the box and i think is what buyers are looking at. I came from a school that had a Music teacher who loved his technology to boot and so enjoyed getting high-end setups on the go (for PCs). He spent a fair amount on all the gadgets to get a good sound so at the end of the day the costs about the same. High-end sound cards cost but the macbooks and imacs don't really need them. From what i can hear they souond pretty decent and the guy who comes in says more or less the same. PCs can do the job but you need to know what you're doing to get the best out of them where garageband can give you some of that without trying. Just a point of view from some non music-maker.

Did you resolve this? if so how since we are having the same problem here now. We ran an update and it had crashed half-way through and had to have the database rebuilt. The server FMS is now working but the 2 workstation clients aren't.

hello, i have added content to our homepage since sysman created the static template for me. One of these is a flash movie. it was working fine but when i opened the page in dreamweaver cs 3 it said the page is incompatible with ie7. i did not have ie 7 to test tis so i thought wellit should know so clicked go ahead and change it then. Now it doesn't work in either ie6 or 7. Comes up as link broken. Could anyone tell me the correct way to display swf embedded objects in these damn inferior browsers. Safari and firefox works as should do. TIA

Move all your work over to the new profile and continue using that. One option I suppose.

Apparently it is a lot more robust than the iPod. There is a video where the iPhone goes through stress testing and the guy gouges the screen with a knife and it doesn't scratch. I will see if i can find the link. It obviously won't stand up to the blender...

Have you tried resetting safari, by going to Safari>reset Safari? Also if that does not help try deleting any .plist files that Safari uses from your library folder. Apparently corrupted plsts can stop programs running correctly. May help with your problem.

Is this the one where you use just your finger to move it up and down or about as much stress as that anyway. Because i see a lever on the left side when you view the accessories link.

Hello, I received an email from bett for the 08 show and it reminded that i still need to track this down. I have tried before to no avail so i thought i would post to see if anyone else has had better look. I saw on the Steljes stand a smartboard with the projector on a boom extension with a slider mechanism which was really easy to move up and down which would prove quite useful in a primary school. Has anyone had any success with tracking down a supplier for schools of this product. PS when i enquired about it at their stands they did not have a product name for it apart from the 'uppy downy thing'. very technical. Hope someone can help as we wnat to put it forward as part of our bid for a new school being built for us.

Because you can boot your mac straight off it and do lots of other stuff like carry all your apps with yah in case you really need that toast, but mainly to boot your machines with it!

They've even tidied up the website so the drivers are easier to find. I have used it on a powermac g3, a clamshell ibook and a CRT g3 (snow white)

I had an interesting issue when i followed the OD-AD integration paper using one OS X Server. I wanted kerberos and standard authorisation to the OD services Mail, etc and network mount shares (under sharing in WGM). When i set the AD first in the contacts list in directory access i could authenticate to the services but when trying to mount the network share (ticking the box) i could only select the active directory which since i could not write back to the schema complained. But if i switched ldap v3 and AD in the directory access (so LDAPv3 was first) i could choose only LDAPv3 but users could not authenticate.

I read that the 'update cache' setting for computers in WGM can have adverse effects if set too low. Maybe this may be the case. I have set mine too low i think (every 24hrs /1 day) and have random machines not pick up their MCX settings.

Check out any Cash converters close by. I picked up a old CRT g3 imac for £20.

I used ditto to copy from a Mac Client to the XRAID. I Mounted the share using an applescript and then copied to that share. I assume that you could do the same with an SMB share.

I don't know if this will work for you but i needed to mount a share for all machines and not know ing much about unix scripting i resorted to applescript. tell application "Finder" open location "afp://;AUTH=Client%20Krb%20v2@server/share" end tell The above mounts the share using kerberos authentication. Whether this helps i dunno but there you go. I used automator to run it but you should be able to run it at login surely.

errrrr, i'm not sure about that one. It just raised a question with myself though. When you join Windows to the network it defaults to getting the network time (?) but apple installs some software to synchronize the clock with its mac-side clock to make sure it is correct. (?) I wonder if this is causing the issue.

I'm not quite sure i follow the last bit. Running gpupdate on every machine seems to suggest the setting to be applied to each machine individually. Is this what you mean? I have mine connected to the network and pulling the group policy from the server (2003). It is the Software deployment that fails since it is the only policy applied to the computer section. i Have mine running on Imacs (intel) and location set to London with the Time being synchronized with the PDC of the Windows domain. We run both OD and AD with integration between the two. This seems to be the only thing that is not working now.

No its just bootcamp on its own with no parallels. The problem still exists but i have yet to try updating to bootcamp 1.4. The problem is very strange as the clocks on both operating systems sync with the same sever. The user policies deploy without problems. It is just the computer policies that fail. I think it may have something to do with the windows drivers that apple uses but i cannot find out where the problem lies. I think i read somewhere about there being a difference between the actual time reported on the server and client and the localised time. eg in london 13.30 but actual time is 12.00 plus 5 hours or something like that. I may have got it wrong. If there is anyone who is in a position to test and confirm or not confirm if it is just my problem that would be great.
