You bought more than one macbook. Do they all have the same problem? I have just been reading about and see a few more people with a problem with sound.Can someone confirm that theirs works with either 1.4 or even 2.0. Can i upload the 1.3 driver to this forum?

Is it just one or all of them?

Did you try the above?

If i recall correctly i removed the SigmaTel Codec and then re-installed the driver from the CD by running the SigmaTel.exe

Have you tried dxdiag?

Do you see the SigmaTel Audio CODEC listed under device manager?

I used 1.3. I never upgraded to 1.4 so cannot confirm if any problem exist. I am looking at my Macbook's configuration now.

What version of Boot camp did you use?

Did they come with leopard on them?

Remove the driver in device manager then re-install the driver. I had this issue sometimes on a 17" iMac. Seems to resolve the problem each time.

Apparently you can download pre-created VMS of linux installs from the Parallels site.

I assume the connect.ini is local as it runs on the same machine as sims and the same as the one the secretary uses. It has just been updated to SQL 2005. Is this problem connected?

"Although things just happen like that on OS X." Tell me about it. I am trying out Leopard server at home at the moment and am having issues with what seems everything. The biggest being DNS. It just does not seem to be working right. It was fine one day. I went back to work on setting up the web service and ical service and it couldn't resolve its own DNS name. Services wouldn't start because their log files were missing. First time the service was started so why couldn't it just create them? A few people are having issues with leopard server at the moment. Check out the discussions over at Apple to see. I personally wouldn't recommend upgrading to leopard. Although stability-wise it is solid. Just not reliable.

I never used OD binding with AD integration on the os x clients in my set up as it never wanted to bind. My clients always (nearly) got the preferences and AD users could authenticate. I think it also states to not bind to the OD in the Bombich/AFP guide too. Or am i up the wrong tree. You may already know but if you trash the DirectoryService Folder in preferences it can sometimes solve some binding issues. Has worked for me a few times. There is also a log in the console on the clients for Directory Service. May shed a little more light. But you do know more than me about macs anyway so i will shut up now...

What AV software do you use. I see a blue screen after logging on and then no further, although it doesn't log back off. Is there a setting thats logs users off after standing idle for so long? Its as if explorer fails to run. My AV is Norton AV and i only see this issue as soon as it is deployed to the clients. I also get RTVScan errors when they log off sometimes as well. Never really looked into it though.

I was wondering if anyone knows of or has links to free (preferably flash-based) learning courses for non-IT literate users. I have seen a NHS learning CD which has been built in Director but uses a .exe extension to run. I was looking for a more platform independent alternative. Plus it has NHS written all over it (literally) so i can't really use that. PS it is interactive as well, for example it asks you to type in a user name and password in a XP login box and click OK to login and ticks the box if you did it right. Quite good really. I would like to make my own but its time again...

Can anyone confirm a problem with the solus app? The secretary cannot connect. Keeps getting an error 0 and the link on sims site give a cannot resolve DNS name. Phoned our sims support and still waiting for his call back.

More for the people around the Birmingham area really. My boss and i are wanting to go down but when he costed the tickets from B'ham new street to London, it came in around £95 per ticket. Unfortunately we cannot justify that sort of cost since we would be down there one day. Just wondering what ticket costs were for you and if they were the same or if cheaper who you are going with. Would really like to go. I went last time and wanted to come and say hello to you guys but the train to Olympia was late and we had some stands to visit and we also had to be back on the 2pm train back home. So unfortunately i didn't make it to your stand.

Yes thats right. The email address the users enters is the one that will be replied to. I will give it a go. Cheers

Hello, I have created a web form to allow parents and other visitors to the site to send a message to the secretary. At the moment all is working fine except one thing. I have set up a box for email address which should then be provided as the return address. But this is not the case. Since the php mail function is running on the webserver and the server is also the smtp sender then the reply address is set as the servers address. how can i set the reply address to the senders address that they put in the box. I have sent the form using the post method into a .php page which then sends the info and echo a success message or failure message to screen. The email field has the label of contact_email and the name is Email. There is a javascript variable set by the contents of this field which is used for validation. I have a variable set on the php side $email = $-REQUEST['email']; which is used in the send command. I have tried to use the same variable in the headers reply to section but this does not work. what can i do to try and resolve this problem?

Parallels are apparently working on a server version of their app. You can run both Parallels and Fusion together but only when Parallels is started first. I think its that way around. So you could run both together and decide.

@ manxdan I have just re-read through this thread and noticed that you stated mobile accounts have a heavy burden on a wifi enabled connection. I have yet to rebuild the macbooks to run into this problem. I did a little poking about to find further info and cam across this document: Tips and Tricks I have had a quick flick through and for any mac admins just starting out, both with server admin and ARD there is some useful info in there. May be worth a read for those that have not yet done so. Anyway its there in case. I just thought i would point it out.
