I like the look of this script but unsure as to how to pass usernames into the script itself. I am looking for a script that will create the home dirs for the users in the AD and then set the permissions on the folders. How would i be able to do this? I have already created a profile template and copied it into place. But when i try to create the users profiles using WGM it fails. TIA for any help you can shed.

Theres a little app that i used before called desklock or something like that. It can run from a network share with a little tweaking and sits in the sys tray. If you hide the sys tray they can not disable it then. Worked pretty well for the little time i used it.

Hello all, I am in the middle of re-building my AD and OD domains to get them integrated once and for all. Unfortunately i have run into a problem with binding my macs to the OD. I have the thread i have started over at bobmich below: As you can see, i am not quite sure where to start on this one to resolve the issue. Anyone else run into this problem or has used net-restore recently on more than on leopard machine and then bound them to the OD as well as the AD? Hope someone can help :-)

I've just had a few Hitachi Short throw projectors installed. CP-A100 i think they are. I like these. They have the network connection as well as being really close to the board virtually no shadows are cast and you don't get the glare in your face like you do when standing in front of the standard ones. Also seem a lot easier to mount and align to. We had some guys install two in around 1 hour

The AD kerbersied print queues for Leopard has been going on for a while now. There was a kprintd package for Tiger but this did not work under Leopard. But someone has posted a response to a thread i started a while back stating that he has hacked the Tiger package and has now got it working in Leopard. I have not tried this yet so cannot confirm if it works or not. I only post it here for information purposes. Am i the only one looking to host on an Xserve? Apache on OS X Server will be what's running ours i hope when i get round to sorting out the security and permission requirements and reading up on the MySQL security as well. A lot of work to get done for me.

Even though the old domain is not coming back up? I will try to clarify if i made my description a little muddy. The new server will host the only domain. The new domain however will be the old domain but the new server will host the FSMO roles instead. The old DC that WAS the PDC DC that used to hold the FSMO roles will then join the new domain. I may just re-build the old DC as well so it is fresh. I just didn't want to re-build the group policies again. I hate that part. What of Member servers? Could they be demoted back to stand-alone servers and then added to the new domain? This is the SIMS server and so i cannot re-build this one.

What would happen if i removed the entire domain and demoted the last DC and removed the domain and forest and then immediately rebuilt the domain again on a new server which would then be the new PDC as it were, holding the FSMO roles and then joining the old PDC that used to hold the FSMO roles before the domain got taken down. I know you cannot take down a DC and then bring it up later since the tombstone life or whatever it is kicks in and then you get problem with the replication and stuff. Would the same be the case with a domain rebuild. I have done it before but only using the same PDC which i should imagine wouldn't raise this issue or am i looking into it in too much complexity? This is the problem when working on multiple OSes, i'm beginning to get a little confused over which does which.

Hello all, We purchased an HP DL140 G3 and i am now setting it up as a DC. The Server is connected to a switch that is capable of link aggregation. I was wondering if anyone has managed to team up the embedded lans on these servers to work as one. If so what did you use to do it? Thanks in advance.

oh, tis a sweet machine. I do like the iMacs. I am looking to get one for my son, as his is slowing down a little now The new keyboards are pretty cool and nice to the touch although i do have one question though. How's the response of the caps lock key? Nice an easy or do you need to hit it slightly harder than the rest? Just wondering as i have two at work and both need a bit of a firmer "press" as it were on the caps lock. With 4GB it should fly pretty nicely too. No green face of jealousy in the emoticons.

I think that the main thing here is choice. Users and admins would just like the option to choose whatever apps they want to view their reports in. Now I am not a heavy sims user (in fact I try not to use it at all) but one thing that does irritate me is that there seems to a complete lack of support for anything that does not come from ms. Such as the ability to cone t to sims via broswer just to do e-reg. They stated it just does not feel as good as the client on a desktop. Apple released their mobileme (eventually) and it feels identical to the client apps. So the tools ARE there. There seems to be a few excuses to me rather than solutions. What about maybe an option to allow the end user of the client app to choose their report editor. Obviously after support has been added?

Don't most monitors come with CDs these days with their ICC on them? I purchased an NEC 2080UX a while back and that came with the ICC on the CD. I think you can also usually download that stuff from their website as well. Just a thought.

I think that paper/pda based diaries are /should be an extension to an exchange or alternative online calendaring system. My reasons for this is the fact that if you are out and about and have the only copy of your diary with you then how can someone arrange a meeting with you? The paper-based / pda diary is for personal-with-you-all-the-time use and IMO should be transferred to online calendars as soon as you either get back to the office or as soon as possible. This is so that others can then see your immensely busy schedule and not bother meeting with you anyway. But all jokes aside the lack of team spirit and communication in schools is astounding and all steps to sort this is IMO better for everyone.

@webman I haven't ticked anything for Q1 but Q2 is still wrong. I think i have tried nearly every single combination available (probably apart from the right one).

If the switch resends the data back to the host that is supposed receive the data then the host will receive it twice. This is, i assume, why the switch drops the frame when coming from the same port as destination.

Ok i put in Fa9 and C. drum roll.... Fa9 was rejected as being the wrong answer. If i do not choose any for Q1 it says that Q2 answer C is incorrect.

None ticked for switch to forward the frame and the frame is unicast but dropped as the port number for the destination is the same as the source which is what the switch should do according to the help section. Am i right? Here's what the help says...

Hello, I am looking through a demo course for a CISCO CCNA online course. I have come across a question where i think i have the right answer but yet it does not seem to accept it. I may be wrong but i don't think it is So what do you guys think?

Just to tidy up the thread i have since decided to move on from the Linux and PyKota installation due the amount of issues i was running into and the time scale i have. I decided to give Paper Cut a try and it does what i need without the issue of needing kerberised print queues. Instead of monitoring 1 set of queues on one server, Paper cut allows me to monitor 2 sets of queues on individual servers but hosting the quota system in one location. Thanks for all the help though. It was most appreciated and if nothing else, it was a great Linux experience and certainly helped me understand it a bit better. I will most likely look at implementing something on a Linux server in the future, maybe a File server since it seemed pretty quick and easy to get this part up and running.
