Can Promethean resources already be used on a Smartboard?
cmssbrie replied to Kyle's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Hi there, If you mean 'Can I use Inspire on a Smartboard', the answer would be no - well, not Inspire Pro version. You can use the Personal edition - as long as you have the teacher consent license (available here: Interactive Whiteboard Community - Educational and Teacher Resources : Promethean Planet). With regard to the resources specifically, you can't use the resources outside of Inspire (they aren't standard image files), but as Griff said, if you have converted a flipchart file that contains specific resources, to another format, my understanding would be that it is no longer an ActivInspre file, so therefore should be governed by the software license that opens the new format. In a similar vain though, if there are any issues with such imports, you would need to contact the developers of the software that they are not working in. I'm thinking its kind of like asking 'if I had a word document containing clipart, and then converted it to .PDF, would I be breaking any licenses?' - to my knowledge, you wouldn't.... Hope this helps! -
Hi there, Unfortunately, I don't believe these are sold directly by Promethean, however, you may be able to speak to your local Promethean reseller who you may be able to purchase them from. If you do not have or know of your reseller, our Support team (available via PrometheanKB) will be able to advise you of someone 'local' to you who will hopefully be able to help. Hope this helps!

Hi there, the check for updates URL that is used is http://www.activsoftware.co.uk/update - this is where Inspire will query on launch / clicking the "Check for Updates" section. Hope this helps!

Hi there, Yep - you can do this. There are a couple of ways. Firstly, you would need to create / save a modified or custom .profile file. To do this, in Inspire, go to File -> Settings and select "Flipchart". Change your "Default Page Colour" to whichever one you want, and then click on the "Save Profile As" icon at the top of the settings window. Save it to say a central location on your server that all users will have access to (i.e \\servername\Inspireprofiles). You will also need to use an admin.ini file, and keys 0 and 1 (for more info on the admin.ini, and how to construct it, please see article 10387 on prometheankb.com) Set Key 0 to be the folder on your network, and set Key 1 to be the "profilename.profile" greated earlier. Then, any user that opens Inspire should then use this profile. The problem doing it this way is that the users will then not be able to modify or "switch" profiles - as we are forcing Inspire to use a specific on. That said, way number 2 would help get around this, but is a bit more "tricky". Like we did right at the start by creating the new .profile file, we can actually "overright" the default ones. You would still need an admin.ini, but this time you would only need to utilise key 0. On one machine, you could, in the File -> Settings -> Flipchart section, alter the "default page colour" for each of the "default" Inspire profiles (e.g "At The Board", "authoring", "Mathematics" etc etc etc). In the top left hand corner of the settings window, you can see change through the different profiles from Inspire, making the change to the page colour, and "Saving As", then saving the .profile in the network location. This will have the same affect as step 1, but this time, users can change and customise the profiles. The issue this way though is if the users create their own profile, they would be able to have any colour background. We have asked for this to be made easier (for example, using an admin.ini, define one of the keys to be the page colour for all flipcharts) - but as yet it has not been implemented. Hope this helps, but if not, please feel free to contact our support team via prometheankb.com. Good luck!

Promethean PLM-30 Projector not working
cmssbrie replied to wsna's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Hi there, If the unit is not coming on, it does sound like either the lamp or the ballast unit which may have failed. Your probably best getting in contact with Support - as the lamp may be covered under warranty, so you might be able to get a free replacement. You can contact them by the contact form on Prometheankb.com (you will need to search for something first before the "Contact Us" button becomes available). Hope this helps -
Promethean Power Amplifier AV-3016 horrible vibrating noise
cmssbrie replied to JEParker's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Sorry - no - there are no circuit diagrams available I'm afraid. -
Hi, Theres quite a few things that may be causing this - with the main ones being that it may be a projector setting, or faukt in the cabling. If you can, could you connect the laptop directly to the back of the projector and see if the image then shows? - If it does, then it would indicate an issue with the wallbox / face plate that you are connecting the laptop to. If it doesn't, then it may well be a setting on the projector - and to be honest, you would probably be best contacting the Support team from in front of the system so they could talk you through the different settings. The telephone numbers are here if you need them. Hope this helps.

Theres no comparrision sheet as such, but Inspire should do all that Studio did + more. Kind of like changing from Win 98 to Windows 7 There are the "free" tutorials that users can take up as well to get them used to Inspire. Perhaps the biggest reason to "sell" Inspire to them would be simply that Studio is now a defunct product, with no support anymore - and Inspire is it's successor? Good luck!

ActivEngage Mobile, iPads, uh-oh.
cmssbrie replied to tb2571989's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Hi there, First things first :-) The free bit allows registration of 1 x Server setup, and 3 x clients - anything over the 3 x clients, you would need to get licenses. Honestly, I havent got a clue about how the costs - but I know it is all provided by resellers. If you haven't got one, our support team should be able to tell you somebody in your area who sells them. Now for the issue...... The good thing is that the connection is showing Green on the Teacher machine - that means that it is talking to, and can see the server. The bad thing is that it sounds like for some reason, the iPads cannot see the registration session in place. Normally, this is due to firewall settings on the wireless network, or because the iPads simply cannot see the same network that the hub is being broadcasted on (Teacher machine). If they can see it, then there may be some kind of restriction / firewall in place on that network stopping the registration broadcast being seen on the iPad. Make sure that you have the latest versions of Inspire and Driver (From Promethean Planet), and if still having problems, your probably best getting in contact with the Support team for a bit more advice. I know it can be tricky some times though - but it is normally a setting on the wireless router, or something stopping the iPad from talking fully to the teacher machine. Good luck! -
Help deploying ActivInspire v1.6 via msi
cmssbrie replied to Pacman's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Yeah - you would need to use the UNC path if the drives haven't been mapped. For the actual profile that you want to use (Key1), all you need to put in is the actual name of the profile you want to use - not the path - this would be obtained from Key 0. So, your admin.ini should look something like this: [General] 0=\\\ygg-resources\ActivInspire\ 1=At the Board.profile Remember though - if you specify the profile to be used, your users will not be able to edit or change profiles when using Inspire. I think this is what you mean - but let me know if not! -
Forcing ActivStudio in ActivInspire
cmssbrie replied to garethEds's topic in Promethean Direct Support
It should do - but as it's a user profile, if the folder isn't there for said user, it will create a new one - which will ask the user to choose their "mode". That said though, when we looked at it, if you put the folder in the users App Data\Roaming\Promethean folder, it did seem to work "the first time" the user opens the app. -

Good call! Will raise that as a new enhancement request! -
Forcing ActivStudio in ActivInspire
cmssbrie replied to garethEds's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Hi, We actually have this raised as an enhancement request - to be able to specify which "mode" Inspire launches in via the admin.ini from default. It actually gets the info from C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Promethean\ActivInspire\UserProfile - so if this folder is not present, it will ask the user which mode they want to use on startup. We did do a bit of testing around creating one user, choosing which "mode" they want, closing Inspire, and then copying the folder above, replacing / creating that same folder and contents for other users in the above path, and it did seem to work ok - however, we did get told by Develeopment that it isn;t actually supported - and they would look into being able to stipulate it in the admin.ini. Tom is also right about setting the default profile via the admin.ini (Keys 0 and 1) however, the problem doing this is that if you set the profile, users can then not edit or change profile once inside Inspire. Hope this explains! -

Help deploying ActivInspire v1.6 via msi
cmssbrie replied to Pacman's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Hi There, Sorry - am unaware of anything that could be causing this. That said, I have had a look around and noticed the info about privelidges as you have also mentioned - is there any way that the priveledges have been set differently with the Driver deployoment? - hence why that works ok but the Inspire one does not? As far as I know, the very latest 1.6 has no known issues with deployment whatsoever. Sorry - not much help I know, but as I mention, it is not something that has been reported into Support previously.... -
Considering Upgrading from ActivStudio PE3 to ActivInspire
cmssbrie replied to carlosdss's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Hi there, I can;t speak for schools, but to my knowledge, Inspire should be able to rolled out fine accross your network - when you run it on a machine, the installer asks if you want a "newtork install" which would then give you all of the relevent .MSI files for the software / resources / drivers etc etc that you can then deploy in the same way you do with any other. There are some quite big changes in terms of "look and feel" for your users, so it might be worth advising the teachers to take a look on Promethean Planet - I believe there are a few free "tutorials" on there that they may find useful. In terms of license, if you have Studio, you can upgrade that copy to Pro version of Inspire for free - so if you have say 10 machines with Studio on, you can update to Inspire Pro for free onb all of those computers, + 10 "preperation" machines. As I say though, can't really speak for anyone else, but most users I have spoken to do seem get used to it quite quickly! -
Hi There, Sorry, it's not something I have information on, but our support team maybe able to help - you can contact them through prometheankb.com. That said, I do know that the only company we "reccomend" for non warranty repairs on projectors provided by us is one called TP Matrix who are in Oldham I think. The support team though should be able to advise if the company has attended our accreditation programme for installers. Hope this helps!

Yeah - we have got an enhancement request in to be able to store numerous systems calibration settings in the driver - but honestly not sure if / when it will be implemented. Hopefully it will be something we see in a future release of the driver!
-
Hello, Unfortunately not - if the laptops are being used on different boards, they would need to be calibrated for those specific boards each time they are connected. The calibration settings are held in the registry, so therefore if you take the laptop to a different board from where they were originally created, the calibration would be slightly different for the new board you are connected to. Hope this explains!

Hi there, Sounds very strange, and to be honest, I have never heard of this before. One thing it may be, how are you controling your volume? - is it primarily through the PC, or are you turning the amp up to full volume? Am just thinking if using the Volume on the amp, and it is up at "maximum", it could be "tripping" out at some point when the audio on the DVD gets to it's "loudest" point. As mentioned though, I have never heard of this before, but it might be worth turning the volume up fully on the computer, and then not turning the amp up as much on the board if that is the way you currently have it. Not sure if this helps at all, but hopefully something to try! If still having issues, it might be worth getting in touch with our Support team at PrometheanKB.com. Good luck!

Hi, Unfortunately, there is no .MSI for the ActiView driver. We have requested one though from the manufacturer, so hopefully one will be around soon. Have sent you a PM as well regarding this - hopefully that will give you a bit more info. -

activ studio to activ inspire licencing question
cmssbrie replied to round2it's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Hi, The support team should be able to clarify this - I can only think that they may have misunderstood, and just thought that you only had 8 x copies of Studio. if you tell them that you have 28 boards - and have a list of the 28 serial numbers, they should be able to help. They must be Promethean boards though - not TDS / Presenta, as these were not provided with Studio. There is also a feature on the Inspire download page where you can input the serial number of your board - give this a try first, and if it doesn't work, contact Support with a list of the 28 x board serial numbers that were provided with Activstudio, and advise them that you are trying to obtain the activation codes for Studio - hopefully they will then be able to resolve. hope this helps!
