If the server became compromised (which you have to accept as a possibility when you are publishing externally) then potentially a malicious user could gain your domain admin credentials. I used a standard user account and it worked fine for me, but I'm only really using the file access part at the moment, so I have not tested the other functionality.

Yes, in fact with a Campus Agreement, you are required to licence the entire organisation, regardless of physical location. I think the only exceptions are where parts of the organisation cross legal jurisdictions, i.e. international arms, but those normally exist as a separate legal entity anyway.

When the software is deployed to the computer GPO (which is what appears to be the case here), the account used to access the share is DOMAIN\COMPUTERNAME$, which is the account associated with the computer object in the AD. That is the account that needs NTFS permissions to the share and files. The permissions you have on the GPO are already sufficient, or you wouldn't see Event ID 301 (or any of the others).

Are you aware it needs to be accessible by the computer accounts rather than a user? Authenticated Users group should cover this, but might be worth adding Domain Computers in too just to check.

I had heard somewhere (possibly on Edugeek) that Ofsted's recent inspection regime included a focus on e-safety, and that they might talk to technical staff (the NM in particular) about this. Perhaps someone who has been through one recently can confirm or deny?

I think that figure is a probably significantly higher than the real figure, unless you're using CRTs still. Buy a meter from Maplin and measure some of them. I did, and even my most power hungry machines were only using 85W for the base unit. A CRT was using about 60W in use, but even the nastiest LCDs I had were only 28.5W, while the new ones were 18.5W. All the LCDs used less than 0.5W when in standby. My figures for a Dell Optiplex 360 running Windows 7 with a 17" LCD came to a total of 63.5W in use, 2.3W in sleep, and 1.7W in Hibernate. If I turn the monitor off completely, I save another 0.5W.

Have you at any point had a sitemap.xml for your site submitted to Google that might have contained erroneous page titles?

Is it just our school, or are yo-yos making a comeback as a fad with kids right now? It seems like half our senior pupils have them at the moment.

Technically I'm working in a school and in the private sector, since I work at an independent. If I were still in a state school, I think I would be a little worried about my general position given the budget cuts and the Education Bill. I don't envy the many here who are having to deal with that.

Regarding illegal content: since each user has to agree to the T&Cs themselves, they would be individually liable. Not sure how that applies to minors, however. I suspect if a police investigation needed access to data, it could be tricky (for them) because the data is in another jurisdiction, but it would actually be less of a headache for you since they shouldn't need to seize any of the school's equipment. For monitoring accounts, you can use Postini to set up watchlists for particular words/phrases, though it's not the easiest thing to set up. In our case, we are one-way syncing passwords from our AD, so if I need to look at a pupil's mailbox, I can reset the password in the Google Apps console, log in, then resync the password from the AD again to put it back to what it was before. We don't use Gmail for staff, but the same procedure would work for them too.

I think you're correct to raise it, but Google is not as unsafe in terms of data protection as some (*cough* MS *cough*) might suggest. When a Google account is first accessed, the user has to accept the T&Cs themselves. This is true even of Apps accounts. Personally, I doubt they are any more likely to read your own AUP than the Google one they have to accept, so I don't think putting it in your user AUP would accomplish much. Also, if you disable ads on a Google Apps for Business or Education account, they don't do any ad-related scanning or processing. Google also meets the requirements of the US Safe Harbor framework for data protection, which is a legal arrangement allowing them to comply with EU data protection even when the data is stored in the US. I would think about notifying parents if sensitive data was being routinely held on Google's servers, but I would be inclined to simply point them at Google privacy policies. I wouldn't go as far as getting a signature, mainly because without proper legal wording, such an agreement could easily be contested in court anyway if push came to shove.

I've not used SWV so can't offer a comparison, but my experience of App-V has generally been good. In terms of your mixed OS deployment, App-V works with both, and most applications will work fine sequenced on one and run on the other. For those that don't, you can target applications based on OS.

We bought one of these: SMART Board 6051i interactive display Can be mounted literally as low to the ground as you can get, and has been well received, but they aren't cheap.

Pretty much all of the RM kit I've tried is unable to run Kodu due to the naff video chipsets on the motherboards RM use. We don't have any RM kit newer then 3 years old at this point, so maybe the newer models are better, but I doubt it.

I'm going to get the MP4 downloaded from YouTube and can post on Dropbox if you have access to that in school?

The download is restricted to logged in accounts (not Ambassadors) despite being posted on YouTube, but even so, but I can't get it to download either. Every time I go to the Confirm Order page I'm asked to log in again (which doesn't normally happen for downloads), and then told "The page you were on generated a server error. Please try again later." Thinkuknow.co.uk is also intermittently not responding at all - I think the server is being hit hard with the additional traffic.
