To say that you need a second server is extremely misleading. I run my exports from my normal Exchange server and they work just fine. If you had to set up a second server, that's something to do with your environment - a second server is not a prerequisite for this to work.

Depends on their current agreements with parents, but if it's just names, then in most schools their normal rules should allow them to do it, since they supply similar lists to companies such as school photographers on a regular basis. I suspect it may still be a permissions issue on the shared folder. I usually run my exports to \\localhost\c$\Export to dump them on a folder on the C: drive of the server, then move them off once the export has finished. Also, are you on Exchange SP1 yet? If so, you shouldn't need Outlook installed on the server any more.

That list of availability is availability of LLU service, not 'regular' ADSL (i.e. the BT Openreach service that most ISPs resell under their name). So when it says "Tiscali: Not available" it means that Tiscali's LLU service is not available there - but you can still the usual ADSL service from them, or from anyone else who sells ADSL on the BT network.

Dos_Box, the angle brackets after items #12 and #44 in your list have been horribly misinterpreted by the HTML parsing code, and (on Firefox and IE at least) everything after that point (including replies) is in italic!

As a workaround, try saving the file as a PDF and printing the PDF. It's not a real solution, but it may alleviate frustration for users until you find a better one.

For those not familiar with the term, VDSL is the service that is provided on the BT FTTC deployment, so that's what we have.

We did go for FTTC in the end, working fantastically for us. £77/month (£65 + £12 for a slightly better SLA) for this: http://www.speedtest.net/result/989907711.png That's about as close as you can get to the maximum performance for FTTC, since we are less than 500m from the cabinet so have only a very short length of copper to traverse.

Fire up Autoruns and see if anything catches your eye? That and run a full virus scan. Randomly named .dlls are a red flag in my book.

First off, the local Administrator profile is a nothing profile. Just log in and it will recreate from Default User as if it were brand new (unless you've modified the Default User). Personally, I see no real benefit to deleting profiles except freeing up HD space. If you're not short on space, there's not really much point.

An awful lot of it it outsourced to Capita at exorbitant rates. I actually know someone who used to be a contractor for Capita doing exactly this kind of work (I almost disowned him when I found out). The format of the census file changes quite often from what I gather, and at my last school we had a bespoke MIS which needed changes making almost every time. From what the NM told me, the validation that takes place during upload very often doesn't match up with the format specification document, so sadly the only thing about your story that surprises me is that this is the first problem you've had.

Yeah, I like having my own equipment. I even have my own LinkRunner. We also don't have enough wireless here to justify a business expense. A proper managed wireless system will be on the budget bid (again) this year, and will include a pricier model Wi-Spy for the school.

Anything that does this in software simply finds a wireless channel and draws a curve of the model signal dropoff - they don't measure the actual frequency band like a WiSpy does, and they certainly won't show you anything else on the same frequency that isn't an AP. Very interesting to hear how they've come down in price, I may have to finally get one. Where did you see them cheap?

I use a Logitech diNovo Mini for mine. It's not a full keyboard replacement (doesn't have some keys, including F-keys) but it works very nicely both for Media Center and also walkthrough demos on a projector when you need more than a PowerPoint clicker.
