  1. Have tried with a different input and as I said before, even the on-screen menu is blurred, as is the boot-up image. Lamp has 766 hours on it which doesn't seem that high to me, but I'll swap the lamp with one from a working projector and see what happens.
  2. I had given it a quick wipe, but even after a proper clean there is no improvement unfortunately
  3. Thanks - none of these were blocked but I had to add office.microsoft.com to our noauth list (odc.officeapps.live.com was already there due to an earlier issue). I didn't have to add the other two to noauth, just make sure they weren't blocked. This is despite us having working Kerberos auth specifically to please Office 2013, and despite an earlier Wireshark trace when it was failing not showing any attempt to load from office.microsoft.com... very strange.
  4. Probably the same problem I got with the Windows 8 one - the RSAT update only supports English in en-US and we Brits typically install Windows with en-GB as the display language. Download the language pack ISO for Windows 8.1 and mount it. Then in PowerShell, run Add-WindowsPackage -packagePath I:\langpacks\en-us\lp.cab -online (substitute I: for whatever drive letter the image is mounted on). Once it's finished, try the update again.
  5. In my experience most Dell servers do indeed come with this option turned off by default. If you have OpenManage Server Administrator installed you can check (and usually even change) the settings while the server is up.
  6. I have an InFocus IN104 that is, quite ironically, not in focus. It's running at the native resolution but everything, including the on-screen menu, is significantly blurry. The focussing rings are working and I can move beyond the 'best' focus point in either direction, but the best is pretty bad. It was perfectly crisp up until a few months ago - not sure when exactly it went wrong as its in a room where staff rarely report problems, and even when I mentioned it the teacher in the room at the time said they hadn't noticed(!) Have given it a blast through with an air compressor, which made no difference. Here's what is looks like at its 'best' focus point (cameraphone unfortunately which isn't helping, but you get the idea). It's 3 years old (so inside warranty), but does anyone have any suggestions before I attempt to deal with the ever-helpful InFocus support line?
  7. These days there are precious few good reasons to use anything other than Office 365 or Google Apps. Both are provided free of charge for schools. Office 365 has a more seamless integration into an existing Windows network, but Google Apps has better content filtering if you have pupil email and need to monitor it for language. FWIW, we currently use Google Apps for pupil email, and an on-premises Exchange 2010 for staff - but I am planning to move staff to Office 365 later this year. I would only recommend on-premises email these days for people who are particularly concerned about the NSA reading their school's email.
  8. Did you get this to work? Basically what I'm finding is that you only see web templates if you sign in either with a Microsoft Account or Office 365 account. Local accounts simply display the error message until you click Work Offline, at which point you get the local templates but obviously no web templates.
  9. @the_dude is correct, I had to do the same thing recently with a user who has changed their name. DirSync can't seem to manage it, and for some reason Microsoft don't let you rename AD-synced accounts in the web GUI, but it works in remote PowerShell. If you've not used remote PowerShell before there are some setup steps. Here's the official reference on TechNet: Manage Windows Azure AD using Windows PowerShell
  10. It may depend on the version of Android. I had no trouble adding my school Google Apps account as a second account on my phone running 4.1, and I can now switch between the accounts in Gmail, Google Drive, Analytics, Keep, and almost every other Google app (with the notable exception of the Play store).
  11. In the same way that 2 tubs of Oreo ice cream just "happened" to end up in my trolley at Morrison's, I suspect.
  12. Oh good, at least you won't have much of a learning curve. Funnily enough the registry stuff in GPP is probably the one part I find actually works 100% reliably, so you should find it pretty straightforward.
  13. Hat tip to Ars Technica: Microsoft relents: MSDN and TechNet will get Windows 8.1 early after all | Ars Technica So we can't deploy just yet due to the VL editions not being available, but if you have a TechNet Plus sub (which you get with EES), you can grab some testing copies now without having to resort to BitTorrent. I'm downloading now. TechNet may be being killed off, but we still get some use out of it before they put it out to pasture.
  14. Now is the time to learn about Group Policy Preferences. It's how I manage all my registry changes.
  15. Did you get this resolved? We have received a duplicate order too and our accounts clerk is tearing her hair out trying to speak to someone at Microsoft Operations Ireland to sort it out.
  16. Good luck, I requested a couple and never got anywhere.
  17. In cached mode this might help: Source: GAL Photos in Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2010 - Exchange Team Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs
  18. Yep, I spotted the exact same thing on Tuesday (have been too busy to post, sorry!). I'd already disabled the SMART Ink office plugins as they were causing Office 2013 to crash a lot, but have now turned it off completely. OWA 2010 was the worst, the entire page was blank, no scrolling at all. Glad it's not just us, to be honest, but seriously, SMART need to get this sorted.
  19. The KB2732673 article describes a problem that should only occur when the client is loading a roaming profile from a remote site and "has a fast link speed to the profile server and has high network latency" (emphasis mine). That doesn't describe the vast majority of school client situations. Are you experiencing slow logons that are resolved by that hotifx?
  20. The above should definitley work, but just to throw out another option (and the one I'd be taking): use this opportunity to virtualise the server. Create a VHD of the existing server using Disk2Vhd onto an external disk. Create the RAID and install Hyper-V (if you dont have a licence you can use the free Hyper-V Server 2012). Copy the VHD back and recreate the original server as a VM with the VHD attached. If you've not virtualised before then obviously there will be a bit of learning curve here, but the big advantage is that next time you need to do something like this - or move the server to new hardware - it will be much easier.
  21. I got a shipping confirmation today for the device which arrived on Monday . To be fair it did say "In some cases you may have already received your delivery" but it was amusing nonetheless.
  22. Basically you need to set up the APs in bridge mode (at least that's what its called on our MikroTik wireless extension). In this mode it works how you describe - a pipe that you can push VLANs over just like a wire. You then have those plugged into trunk ports on each switch and configure the VLANs on the switches as per normal. How exactly you do that will depend on the AP. What make/model are they?
  23. Ours turned up a few days ago out of the blue. I never got a proper confirmation email, only the initial "thanks for your interest" email. I did chase it up with Anthony though so that may be why it didn't follow the stated procedure.
  24. Personally I would remove the VMDKs from the VM for later diagnosis and restore the mail server from a backup from before the problem started. You'll lose a couple of days mail but you'll have your mail server back a lot quicker. Just be sure to go over patches and firewall with a fine-toothed comb to make sure it isn't immediately re-compromised, and you can then dissect the problem a bit more calmly on an isolated VM with the original disks.
  25. Yeah, the reseller has banged some heads together at their distributor who admitted that an inexperienced account manager had quoted incorrectly. I've now had correct pricing through which does not have any significant increase on last year.
