  1. No we are getting it supplied from servernation.co.uk as they were recommended by an Edugeek colleague. GJE
  2. We are set to order a SAN tomorrow to go with our two new servers which will be used for HyperV. Now we've looked at HyperV (after decided to go with it instead of Citrix), and we are confident that we can setup the two servers. However - I've never set up a SAN before. Usually all of my servers have run off their internal drives but now this is different. Here is the spec: What do I do with it? LOL. I love this learning lark - never too old to learn. Gareth
  3. As I have not looked at HyperV yet (book arrives tomorrow) can I assume this can be set somewhere? Gareth
  4. So if we have E5645 chip with 'IPMI X2 6 Core E5645 2.4Ghz Xeon CPU's' then it would be: 2 x 6 x 12 x 8 = 1152 virtual processors? Seems a lot. That would also be *2 because we have two servers. Or am I missing the point. GJE
  5. Our host PCs will have between 48 and 96Gb - I hope that's enough. GJE
  6. I agree totally. Personally I respond to parents emails as both a Form Tutor and a Subject HoD. I really do not mind them mailing. I have a feeling that I'm in the minority in my school. If there is something I cannot answer I ask and then reply. I will always send a polite email saying I have received the contact and will answer fully soon. I don't do this straight away but by the end of the evening. If I had loads of mails I guess it would stop but I don't get that many. Gareth
  7. Thanks Chris. And you can confirm there is no difference at all? Nada? Zip? WHich one do you think I should use? GJE
  8. Our journey through virtualisation is still ongoing and in the research phase (as it has been for over a year). Funding maybe available soon and after looking and deciding on Citrix we have now decided to re-look at HyperV. As I look at the trial download on Microsoft, can anyone tell me the difference between: HyperV Server 2008R2 and the version that comes built into Windows 2008R2? Am I right in thinking one is a barebones and would boot off usb stick? Do they come with all features or are there any paid for versions of HyperV? We are licensed as part of our EES for 10 servers - would this include HyperV? What would you guys use? The WIndows 2008R2 version or the barebones version? Gareth

    I'm a dad!

Loving the Calvin at the bottom of your post.
  10. Oh well - the day has come. Last call for sponsorship and then I'll shut up for a year. The Llanelli 10K is next so hopefully there I will be raising money for MacMillan or any other Cancer Relief. Has Edugeek got a preferred charity? Maybe it should choose one every year and if anyone raises money we give a little to that? Today's run has to go to Sport Relief but maybe next time I run in an organised race I will be able to choose where it goes. So on this Sunday morning whilst you are eating your bacon and sipping your coffee think of those who are not. Be they in the UK or abroad - we are lucky. Whilst you are out in your garden this afternoon tending to your lawn, painting your shed or playing with your kids think about those who cannot do that because they are bathing in a river of faeces. To show that I am not just taking your money I (and Mrs E and my son) too have sponsored myself £30. Watching the suffering on the BBC on Friday was just too much. Come on - can I make £200? Ony on £122 so far (which is more than my original £50 target). Sport Relief giving page | Sport Relief 2012 Best wishes everyone and thanks, Gareth

  13. Many thanks. Really appreciated. I'm running for everyone who has donated through me. You should all feel amazing. Gareth
  14. Thanks both. Really appreciated. Anyone else reading this and watching Sport Relief? Donate to my run and give a little. Trust me you will feel good. I ht £50 so now help me raise £100. John Bishop just reduced me and Mrs E to tears. No family should ever have to worry like that. No child should have to worry about dying. Forget that packet of ciggies this week give the £5 to me. Have one less pint. Sponsor me £3.20 instead. Thanks all. After Sunday I will ask no more. Gareth
  15. hi Everyone, I've reached my self-imposed sponsorship target so thanks to everyone who donated. You guys are amazing. Now to do the run. Gareth
  16. Where do I get Emerge for hte iPad from? Gareth
  17. I know by thanking everyone I am going to bump my post back to the top. £7 left before I hit my £50 target. The run is on Sunday and after a 5K tomorrow I should be sorted. So thanks everyone so far for their generousity. You have no idea how much it means. It's all going to a good place. Gareth
  18. I hope I read that about the Sky Drive Client correctly - do you mean we can map a drive using a GPO to a Sky Drive address? That would be cool. Whoops - seems you could do this already :-) I wonder if there is a way of making skydrives with the usernames of our pupils? http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57347395-285/how-to-map-your-skydrive-folder-in-windows-7/ Gareth
  19. any downlad link to try it out?
  20. Seems a shame if they put the prices up - especially for us that have supported the product since version 2. GJE
  21. Hi All, Can anyone recommend a good digital photo frame? We used to have one but it was useless. Ideally I would like to be able to send photos to it wirelessly - or maybe have it pick up photos wirelessly from our NAS box? Sound - can some record sound? It's for mothers day from my 20month old to Mrs E. It will be filled with pictures of him :-) GJE
  22. Afternoon, Our installation of Techsoft 2D design somehow hasn't managed to associate the file type in the registry. Can anyone export the correct registry key for the association so I can add it to a GPO? Otherwise I'll sit down and Google it later tonight (teaching all day). Cheers and appreciated, Gareth [Edit That should be 2D design Sorry]
  23. Bump. Camera is still here. :-( £400 for the lot isn't bad is it? GJE
  24. With the rumoured Office for iPad soon I wonder if (if at all) and how it would be available on the ESS scheme - how would they do that? I cannot see how they could do it through the app store. Maybe they could have you download a container app for free and then enter a serial code for an in-app purchase to the version you are entitled to. Hmmmm - would those with iPads download it? GJE
