Stupid question but I think someone is messing with my icloud account - can you tell me is it possible to read texts online if imessage is turned off? Someone said something to me today that kind of indicated they had read a text. Yet they had not seen my phone. Gareth

I wonder if would be willing to share the following information with me. How many specialist teaching ICT staff do you have / how many pupils do you have. (I'm not interested in technican staff). I'll also take non-specialist ICT staff (how many lessons and whom do they teach?) How many Key Stage 3 lessons you have allocated for each class in each year group. How many GCSE lessons ICT/Comp Sci style subjects get. Do you have a Sixth form - if so which courses (ICT/Comp etc) and how many lessons they have. We are as follows: 730 pupils 1 Head of ICT (me) - 54 out of 60 lessons a fortnight 1 non-specialist - 1 lesson a week. Key Stage 3 - 1 50 min lesson a week Key STage 4 - 5 lessons a fortnight Key Stage 5 - 10 lessons a fortnight. I'm trying to collect this information because I believe I need another specialist in school to help with the department. I could ask on the TES forums but I hope more will answer here. We've bought an HP2000 to go with the new HP servers we bought two months ago. Should be arriving a week Monday as there is nobody here over half term. Not a massive amount of space to start with 7.2Tb but plenty of room to grow. We've virtualised the majority of stuff but they are stored locally. Just need to move them over to the SAN. KM have just won the Swansea CC contract - £1.5million from what I gather. We have 7 KM MFD devices in school and they are very good. We pay rental and click charges. The click charges on the new Swansea contract are amazing. We run it with pCounter from Altman and pCounter Embedded. I like them. We are just getting a 754 maybe a 951. Gareth

Hi Guys, We have a new HyperV2012 setup and are looking at backups before we take the system live in a few weeks. We have found Veeam and have read some bts on here but there seem to be a few editions. We have been quoted on standard and evaluation editions. What do you guys use out there? Is Veeam okay? Can anyone tell me if it is possible to run a command to see if there is an adfs server running somewhere on our network? We have a central LEA wide AD. Don't really want to explain any more. Just wondered if there was a command that asks the AD if there is one there. Cheers Gareth

Again I see your point but I believe we should be trying to make our job easier and get machines up and running quicker (for the benefit of the pupils). INstalling updates from USB is a lot quicker than installing during the deployment process. Making a new image every six months isn't that time consuming if you plan it. Our software is MSI/GPO as well. The only one we include in the image is CS3 - but even that is going soon as we are to purchase CS6 in June which is supposed to have an improved deployment method. I see where you are coming from but doesn't it make sense to cut down the deployment time by making the best Windows 7 base image possible? If you simply install Windows 7 SP1 then there are around 100 individual updates to go on during the WSUS stage of deployment. This takes time. It would be quicker to get them into the base from day one. Gareth

I disagree a little bit there. When you are creating your reference image there is nothing to stop you installing Windows 7 then installing updates and then capturing the most up to date image you can. That is what we do. Before creating a fresh image (once every 6 months) I download all updates using WSUS Offline Installer. I then create my reference image and install all the updates from a USB stick. Like I say this makes sure I have the most up to date image I can get. Oh and I've still got the WSUS checks in there as well as I know there will be updates between images. Certainly saves downloading 100 or so updates everytime I build a machine. Isn't that how everyone does it? Gareth

We too are looking to move our email to Office 365 from an LEA hosted Exchange 2007 server. The LEA only offer us mailboxes of 2Gb. Part of the new Hwb+ Learning Portal in Wales is Office 365 integration however it depends on the LEA. They are soon to set up an ADFS server and out AD is stored centrally. The sooner they go through this the quicker I can get things set up. Gareth

When creating a new build image we use the OfflineWSUS Installer application and download all the updates seperate. Then once the fresh install is made the updates are added. It creates an up to date image for a while and lessens the load on the WSUS server when building and also makes it a bit quicker. I create a new image once a year. Gareth

Morning Just to let you guys know that we've fixed the issue without rebuilding the affected machines. After hours of scouring Google I managed to find a website that listed some NTLM settings that we could try. I tested them with Local settings and they worked. So I've now sent them out to my room and they worked. They've been sent to a room where the machines were NOT affected - they worked. So we have now sent the setting out sitewide (or we will at 10:42 - break time). So, the website? Here you go: Enabling of NTLM on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 - Damir Dobric Posts - developers.de Seems simple now. I've also turned the setting off in MDT2012 :-) I think MDT is great but annoying at the moment. Gareth

I know - but I've got between 100 and 150 computers to rebuild and no time to do it. Only today this started happening. I've rebuild one machine to test the MDT setting but will not find out how that goes until tomorrow morning. There must be a setting somewhere... Thanks Gareth

Re-opening this thread - we have been deploying with MDT2012(u1) for the past few months and all has been well. 64 bit and 32 bit Windows 7 have been working fine. Over Easter the LEA implemented Smoothwall and now we see that machines built with 2012 are not working due to this GPO pack being applied as part of the task sequence. Can anyone advise what I need to change back? What does this GPO pack change that doesn't allow our Win7Ent machines to use SmoothWall? I need to send out a setting to possiblt between 100-200 machines that suddenly do not work. I want to try and avoid rebuilding them. Worth mentioning that NTLM appears to be disabled when connecting to Squid. Any help appreciated. Gareth
