The gamestation near me offer a service where they try to fix damaged disks. I'm not sure if they all do it but if you live near a gamestation it might be worth a try.

Thats the anti virus that caused me the issue. Try disconnecting the computer from the internet/network, uninstall sophos and try again. Even if this is not the cause it would be good to try to rule it out

Backup Exec encrypted backup

Thanks, I am going to set this up and take it home over christmas -
I want to start taking a tape backup off site once a term but want to ensure that it is encrypted so if it did go missing no one could get to the data (Or it would be hard to get the data). I have a Disk to Disk to Tape Setup using Backup Exec 11d. I have had a look in the settings but cant find where I can create an encrypted backup. Firstly can I create an encrypted back with backup exec? Secondly if I can, how do I do it? Thanks

You need to tell me what disk you need. Every CC3 server has a different disk. If you look at the support page I mentioned and let me know which one you need I might be able to help

Are you looking for the CC3 Server recovery CD? if you are and you have a support contract search the knowledge Library for "NWS640565". This will tell you what disk is needed for which server. If you need a disk I have I will let you have the iso

Cheers for all the suggestions. The servers have always been scanned regularly so I will leave that schedule as it is. I will change the workstation scan to once a month and do it in the morning to reduce the impact. Thanks

We use RM Virus protect on a CC4 network which is basically symantec anti virus. I have setup the scan of workstations to start at 12:30, I did this because lunch is between 13:00 - 13:30 and the scan can take any where between 1 and 2 hours so the majority of it will happen over lunch. I have had complaints that the workstations have become really slow to the point of becoming unresponsive during this time. Does anyone else have this problem? How else or when do you do your virus scan? I am thinking of setting up a schedule to start the workstations before anyone gets into work in the morning then schedule the scan to start soon after.

Our exams officer kept saying the the students could not see the clock on the hall when doing their exams. So I created a webpage with a flash clock, some boxes to input the start and end time and the centre number. I project the webpage onto the drop down screen and so far it has been working well. Has anyone else done this? One of the exam invigilators said they had never seen this done before and thought it was a good idea. So I was wondering if we are the only ones that are doing it.

I would rather just use the edugeek template. I know it would take me a bit of work to customise it but It does everything the school wants it to like cost almost nothing (We need more add more storage to host the site), it looks good and you can manage it via the web from anywhere. I hope that the cost of bringing in a company will scare him off and we will go with my original plan anyway!!

The head teacher would like a new school website. He has looked at web fronter and said it was rubbish. I created a website using the edugeek joomla template and he said he liked it but wanted to look at all the options available before making a decision. Can anyone recommend a company that will come and design a website for us? I would like the management of the website to be web based like joomla and it has to be relatively easy to use because most of the input and updating will be done by a member of the admin staff. Also if you could let me know any websites that the company have already produced so we can see examples of their work.

I haven't heard anyone else report having this problem. I guess you can keep trying the link during the day but if it still does not work let me know and I will send you another invite to a different e-mail address and hopefully have more luck with that one.

We are using Backup Exec 11 with the same kind of setup as you. The Backup exec service stops while backing up the Exchange server once or twice a week but luckily its normally the last server to get backed up so has not been a big problem. What services are stopping? Are they stopping while backing up a certain server? I haven't had a chance to look into why this has been happening on our server but If I do find anything I will let you know.

Thanks for all the suggestions I do have the Agent for SQL and I have installed the open files backup module on the server. I have checked that I have selected the files in the backup selection list but its still not backing up the sims.ldf/.mdf and ccsfms.ldf/.mdf files. So it looks like I will need to create the batch file to stop and start the SQL.

I am using Symantec Backup exec 11d and have the agent for SQL Server 2000. The sims server seems to be backing up fine including the SQL but it is not backing up the sims.ldf, sims.mdf, ccsfms.ldf and ccsfms.mdf files. I have looked on the symantec support pages but have not found anything. Is there a setting or a tick box some where that I need to change to get these files to backup? or is there a different way I should be backing up these files?

I was given Patch 12494 but it didn't really make a difference. I am going to apply the March update soon so apart from the horrible new home page there might be an update that will solve the issue.

The sims team sent us a patch to install. I installed in on Thursday and im just waiting to hear from the member of staff that uses exams to see if its any better.
