Thanks, We had this problem with someone else and it was to do with Zone Alarm, as soon as they un-installed it, it downloaded fine, same error message and everything. I have tested several different sources from work and home, and haven't been able to recreate the problem, but I will try and work out why it is doing it. It maybe that it hasn't gone from the main sourceforge server out correctly or something like that. Could others try and download it for me even if you arn't going to test it as I would like to narrow down where this problem is coming from. Thanks, Jo

Decided to be a bit cheeky and post about this release 8) Karoshi use to be a Linux replacement for RM, so basically it would sit ontop a Linux box and would allow you to do things like proxy servers, file servers etc with out touching a single text editor or console! Well now with the new version it's even easier, as we have moved it to become its very own OS. Anyway, its very stable, we have quite a few schools using it, one in Africa has won Star Letter in next months Linux Format, about us. But I do need more testers, all I need you to do is download it, get a spare box, our lowest spec was a P3, and play around, then give us an email or better still post on our forum for any changes we can do, to make it easier, simplier or just plain better. We build our own. Last lot were £270 each: 17"TFT, 3.0Ghz AMD Semprons, 1Gb Memory, 80Gb harddrive and 6200 geforce graphics cards. Obviously this includes mice, keyboards cases etc. The biggest amount I ever had to build was 70 PCs, was done in 2 weeks.

Same as others, not a major summer: Upgrade sims Ghost 30 PC's and put into on room (started already, just an upgrade on hardware) Ghost 30 PC's and move to room next door (these are the older pc's the above are replacing) Add all the new students to the servers Make sure all computers are working, have keyboards and mice Put servers into rack mounted cases (though I am expecting these before the hols) To be honest compared to a lot of you thats nothing...lol Jo

Yep , We use Linux fat Clients, started with a room of 20 this september we will have to more rooms of 30 running it. Runs Crossover for Macromedia. All other Windows computers in the school uses open source software. Have had complaints but they have always been fixed. Jo

Hi, Thanks for that. Did you download the beta or the 5.01? It sounds like you have 5.0.1 in 5.0.2 there is only 1 icon placed on the desktop. We where looking into make it a special distro but people wanted to use something they liked, for example debian, or at the moment we have someone in new mexico who wants to use kanotix. This is one of the reasons why we went from being Mandrake/Mandriva only to supporting more than one distro. Jo

That would be cool ico2 (esp from someone who has a Moss avantar!!!) If you download the iso for 5.0.2 (found in the beta section) it is the 'setup karosh' icon, which is the first thing on see on the CD, and the icon that opens up the dialog on the desktop to do the managing. It's not totally embedded but I haven't found a way to stop it. For example if you just right-click on the setup karoshi icon and open it up in for example kwrite, you can see what I mean. Phew...I made it...lol...sorry I'm late... It doesn't work on fedora at the moment but we are currently working on that along with Suse. Again at the moment when it does work it will be KDE only but we are working on that too. So supported at the moment: Debian, Kubuntu, Mandriva Working on: Suse, Fedora and Kanotix You don't get anything when you are clicking on the icon, as it is KDE specific. *start of self advertising* You can look at Karoshi.(www.karoshi.org.uk) The web server part of the setup - colossus - allows you to install moodle with one click. Though the setup also does a lot of other bits and pieces websites etc, you don't have to choose these and can just install moodle. The good thing also is that with the web server you do not need a full karoshi setup just that module. *stop self advertising* On the other hand if you would like to install it from scratch I would only be to happy to help. Well, we will have to bring it back round to a Linux rulez thread!! lol Basically being a school who is moving towards a Linux system (servers and 2 classrooms so far) I was shocked (ok maybe not seeing that it was RM) that a so-called 'crossed-platform' system wouldn't work on Linux clients, and that they would only support Red Hat (even though I think that it would probably work on all RPM based distros) Like said before, the response was Buy a Microsoft Server and run Citrix clients...urmmm no thanks, I didn't save this school £60,000 moving aways from RM and Microsoft to go and spend it on them again My 2p!! Hi leeupo, I'm part of the team at Karoshi, if you need any help with your systems just ask, you can email me at: [email protected] My system runs on 2.6 AMD's, 2GB SDRAM and lots of storage! That supports 800 staff and students and over 300 PC's/Laptops. Another school runs on 2.4, and 1.5GB RAM with 1070 staff and students and 450 PC's/Laptops, so don't worry too much about buying the latest Dell or HP servers to run Linux and Karoshi. Both these systems were hand-built at £600 per server, but if you are not technically knowledgable then it maybe best to stay with the 'big boys'. Let me know if you have any questions Jo
