My understanding, If a teacher is on Maternity leave, it is illegal for the school to ask them to do any work while they are off, and asking for the schools work equipment was in fact a requirement. (I am not employed by a school, so could be wrong) As for the extra laptops / just in case a teacher forgets theirs. We have a few extra laptops in case one gets a fault, we have extra laptops in case someone wants to run a course, we have extra laptops in case someone wants one in the hall for a session. The extra laptops are always in use, but we still end up with far less devices being purchased, than if we had desktops fixed in all of those locations. Obviously, if you only have desktops, they are stuck in one place, even if they aren't being used, which seems a waste of money to me. Laptops can be used just like a desktop, but have the flexibility of also being portable.

I just opened a video using my Workspace account and an advert starting playing before the video played. We do have restricted mode enabled, but in the info it says that doesn't change the users advert settings or block any ads.

With YouTube Restricted Mode, you can filter out potentially mature videos while leaving most videos available. When you turn on Restricted Mode for any version of Google Workspace: Users can't see comments on the videos they watch or upload videos to YouTube. Ad personalization settings aren't modified.

I have also just read that if you add the YouTube video to Google Classroom it removes the adverts.

Can a Google Workspace school purchase an add free version of Youtube? Just trying to find other options.

So reading through that link, it seems hyper backup can do system and file backups to both an external drive or wasabi. Is there anyone on edugeek doing this? Has anyone had the disks go pop and needed to restore from a hyper backup?

Hi, I am thinking about investing in a DiskStation DS923+ to backup all the Google Workspace accounts, but have few questions. If I use the built in Google Workspace backup system to backup to its internal ?tb drives, can I also use the device to make an offsite backup to Wasabi or an external USB drive. I am also wondering what happens if the device itself dies, but the drives are OK, can you just get another device (same make model) pop the old drive in and off you go?

All 4 primary school I help with, all staff have their own laptops that they take home. All files are stored in Google Workspace Shared drives. Been setup like this for at least 8 years now, without any issues. Very easy to manage.

Because we were going through our LA for SIMS & FMS, when we stopped using SIMS the LA still charged us the same amount :-(. Moved over to Arbor finance, so that's all good now.

Same as above, on our Hyper-V DC we have the time box unticked in that VMs settings. The DC is set to get its time from an external time service. All other clients and servers look at the DC for their time.

Just wondering if anyone else has also had issues with the mouse icon either jumping around randomly, or the button pressing multiple times. Its not all the time, which makes fault finding or following any steps dell send problematic and very lengthy. I have this laptop in 4 different primary schools and have had this same issue on at least 3 or 4 at each school. Normally I get sent a long list of things to test, but as its intermittent it often seems like its fixed the issue, then I have to open another job, eventually they will send someone out to replace the mouse pad. Anyone else have this same issues?

We have automated alerts for both pupils and staff. The few times the school wanted to go through someones search history, we had to inform that member of staff and have them with us while doing this. I could have also generated a report with all those websites, but the head wanted to be as upfront about this as possible.

Thanks. I am going to contact the printer company, as it looks like I have to set this up on the device itself, which then means anyone printing to the device will need a pin.

Just deploying some Chromebooks in a shared environment at a primary school. They have asked for all pupils KS1 & KS2 to have their own login. What I have just noticed is that when a pupil uses a different device to the one they used last time, they get a little popup asking if they want to restore their settings. Just wondering, if its possible to always restore their settings? Or what happens if they don't?

We are looking into setting up pin number printing at a very small primary school. Generally, is it possible to enable this just for selected users or does it have to be all?

Action1 does all this nicely, and can also push out W11 if needed. its free for 100 devices

I was literally reading something on a Google setup page yesterday and it said the network + certs settings were device based.

Active directory keeps a list of last logged on, so this could help. Otherwise Something like Action1 might have what you need. A1 is free for 100 devices.

Doesn't the recovery partition also have something to do with bitlocker?

We put a coloured label on the case, trolley and also the power cable. We have about 300 Chromebooks and that seems to work ok. I wouldn't get involved in putting them back into the correct cases, look up who last logged onto it and hand it back to them.

On my server I deleted that partition, then reduced c a bit and created a new one with the extra space Later I read something saying, remember to take a copy of the data in the restore partition first, then copy it to the new one. No idea if that's actually needed, everything seems ok on my server so far.

Have you just left them updating to see if they do eventually install the updates, or have you had to hard reset every time?

@HyperTech How are you managing / deploying your printers? How does Google handle 'standard' user accounts and the need for admin access to the Windows device? Or do you set that up on the device itself. Ill put some more time aside to read up on setting this up.
